VSG to RYGB - after 5 years with VSG

Recommended Posts

To be quite honest I am glad to be a dumper because it makes me stay in check. The restriction I had with VSG kept me from overeating but the RNY dumping keeps me from eating bad foods and I have to watch my portion size or I will get sick as well.

I have no issues with dumping, none whatsoever and honestly jealous of those that do! I feel no restriction and have to be careful of what I eat more than I did with the sleeve. I am thankful for not having any more GERD and did lose a little more weight with my Roux-en-y gastric bypass but still have not reached my goal weight. I am close but stalled for the past two months and in fact have gained a couple of pounds and so 6 months later post revision surgery, I am worried, is my honeymoon over already? So now, I am thinking of going back to the liver diet to jump start my system as there is this issue of no restriction. I sometimes wonder did they really do a bypass? I do know that I have been snacking too much so will consciously stop this and get too moving more. I came back to read this forum for more inspiration as it usually is what I need to get moving back in the right direction again. :) I have no regrets because with the sleeve I stalled and stayed around 170lbs so I am making progress and I have no more heartburn or GERD or risk of throat cancer.

Greetings Coexister,

i does seem that I am not a dumper either because I’ve tested this several times. I did get a bad reaction from drinking whole milk kefir. I got a stomachache. I wonder is this a form of dumping syndrome? When I drank low fat or non fat kefir, I absolutely had no problems with the kefir. However, when I had a frozen yogurt, I didn’t experience any sickness in my physical body. In terms of losing weight, for the last three weeks, I have stayed the same weight. I haven’t gained or loss weight. I guess that’s a good thing.

You know something, Coexister? I have often wondered if my Bariatric Surgeon actually did the RYGB on me. My recovery is very similar to when I got the VGS in 2016. I control my snacking by putting everything I eat in my dietary journal. My dietitian gave me a calorie target and I rarely go above my calorie target. If there’s a particular snack I want to have, I budget for it within my calorie budget.

I also read these forums for insight and inspiration as everyone that uses these forums have pearls of wisdom to offer each other. I have no regrets that I proceeded to revision to the RYGB because I my weight is coming down again and I have no more GERD & heartburn anymore. I also can’t risk get throat cancer from the hideous GERD I suffered from before I had my RYGB. 😃

I am six weeks post op and today was my first day back on solid food. I’m going back on solid food slowly - introducing each new food slowly back into my diet.

I have an appointment with a bariatric surgeon/general surgeon June 17. I had sleeve surgery 6/2010. Maintained at or below goal for six years. Slowly I regained 38 lbs, but worse than that, the GERD. I had a endoscopy done Nov 2019, I have a hiatal hernia that he says will come back so he will not do surgery. He put me on a prescription med and that's it. Worked for two months perfectly, I'd been eating 8 - 12 Tums per day and went to zero. I started needing an occasional Tum so he upped the med to twice a day. For the past couple of months I am needing a Tums more and more, weekly, although maybe two or three in one day, once or twice a week. He failed to mention there was an ulcer and stricture. I am a bit worried. I know how dangerous an ulcer can be. I am preparing myself for RNY, is that the ONLY way to fix all of this? Would the GERD stop and could I/would I lose 25-40 lbs that I've regained? I messed up when we left Dallas, I had been going to a couple of support group meetings twice a month, I was logging my food, we moved and I stopped. What is your opinion? Do I ask about it, for it or just prepare myself for the possibility? Thank you!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
