Hey Y'all, so my Surgery is this coming Tuesday! Im having the RNY, and I was just on the hospitals page, because im an obsessive planner, and saw a part where it said to bring an adult who can sign consent papers to be with you. Now, my Husbands in the military and we dont live super close to family, on top of that we JUST moved here, so I lined up a babysitter to watch them when my Husband comes to pick me up from the Hospital for Discharge, get the instructions and sign paperwork. But, the clinic didnt mention anything about needing a support person there the day of, so im wondering, how many of you guys went by yourself and didnt have someone in the waiting area for you? I kind of figured with Covid, that wouldnt be a thing anyways? I planned on having his number down and him for my emergency person, and I do have someone who can watch them IF theres an emergency, but its pretty late to get a Baby Sitter the day of surgery at this point. Im hoping im freaking out over nothing, and not having someone in the waiting area isnt a big deal?

I figured I cant be the first person this has happened too.

Thanks in advance!

I don’t think you need to worry about this... I’m single with no kids and I don’t have any family nearby. I didn’t tell anyone about my surgery, so I didn’t even have anyone to pick me up from the hospital, let alone stay with me as a “support person.” I hired someone from a home care agency to pick me up and bring me home from the hospital. It was not an issue at all. And you’re right — with the COVID situation, most hospitals aren’t even allowing visitors right now. Mine didn’t. The nurses and hospital staff will take care of your medical needs, and while it might be nice to have a companion/support person, it is really not necessary.

@BigSueThank you! Im an obsessive planner and everything was running so smoothly, that my brain snagged on that and I started to Panic some, thinking I wouldnt be able to get this surgery that ive worked so hard for. So thank you! That really helps.

I agree. There's nothing to worry about. My kids are grown & my husband is my pick up. I had to call him to pick me up &as soon as he was downstairs he'd call to let me know & they took me dwn. U really don't need anyone but it's nice to hv someone bcuz u will hv to pick up meds b4 u get home. I don't know how old ur kids are but u will need to rest bcuz this is major surgery & ur body does need to heal. People are different. I needed a lil help for a few days after that I was able to tend to myself. I wasn't tired or anything but in a little pain from the incision sight other than that I was 👍. Good luck on ur new journey! Yaaay Michaela!! Welcome

They're young, but I have help for after, hes actually managed to take Leave, which is like magic, they only willingly give leave when Kids are born, I swear. So everything was working beautifully and oh so smoothly and then that jumped out at me on the hospitals web page and I started worrying, because that threw a wrench in how well everything had been planned out!

Thanks for commenting, im way calmer today than I was last night, im actually excited, im down to 4 day!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
