Legs cramps / achey legs

Recommended Posts

5 days post-op and my legs ACHE. I can't sleep, can't sit. I do not remember this after the sleeve. I really am only drinking Water. I've been so nauseous, I can't stomach Protein water. I'm on clear liquid stage. Anyone else struggle with this?

I'm almost 6 weeks out and I wake up 2-3 nights a week with the worst leg cramps I've ever had in my life.

Oh my word. It's terrible. Truly, I get up & just walk because the pain from sitting or laying down is so bad. I'm so sorry you're continuing to deal with it!

Leg cramps can be a sign of significant dehydration.

Could be low potassium? Hope you figure it out. Good luck!

Dehydration with electrolyte imbalances is the most likely cause (both mentioned above by our smart forum buddies). Low potassium and magnesium (electrolytes) can cause muscle cramping along with dehydration. It is not uncommon to get depleted in these when your intake is low. Try some calorie free electrolyte beverages, like Gatorade or adult pedialyte.

Good luck!

ps. Go to the ER if symptoms do not improve, or if you have heart palpitations. You may need IV fluids to get you over this recovery hump. 🤗

I have been eating 1/2 banana per day in the last week and haven't noticed leg cramps in the last 5 days, so maybe there bananas are helping a bit. I can only eat them when they're still a little green on the ends, so I had to wait until I could tolerate them.

Well, they made me go in for labs & now I'm waiting on ultrasound to rule out blood clots. I truly don't think it's clots. They want me to drink broth for sodium, it's just everything besides Water was making me nauseous, so I've only been sticking to water

So No blot clots, and lab work normal, but cannot sit or lay down because it aches so bad. I don't get it

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
