I am 10 weeks post op and so far have had a pretty good experience, taken all the advice and been very much a rule follower. On Friday last week we went to an annual Prawn Day fundraiser and I had one weetbix and zymil milk for Breakfast with no issue. At midday I had one prawn, half a moreton bay bug (very small lobster like crustacean) and one oyster. Probably a total of 1/3 to 1/2 cup of food. I had this over a period of half an hour or more, and well after half a very small glass of rose wine.

10-15 minutes after the oyster, I felt this god-awful rush to my face, breathlessness, rapid heart rate, dizziness, shaking and wanted to roll over and pass out. I had to go outside to the medical tent and sit on the bed (after assuring them I wasn't one of the drunken arses at other tables 🙂 ) and felt just horrible with the cold sweats. One of our lovely local police officers took me home and I recovered after about two or three hours.

I've read up and it sounded more like late dumping syndrome, where the body feels a rush of sugar to the system and releases a lot of insulin, resulting in a sudden dip in blood sugars. This is supposed to happen two-three hours after a meal so can only assume it was the weekbix.

Has anyone else felt like this after having such a good run of no real bumps in the road? I sincerely hope it wasn't the seafood, but it's the first time I've tried each of these items since surgery. I have had weetbix before and wine - not together of course - with no issues. I guess I am answering my own question, seafood/shellfish very likely to be the cause.

Sigh.....

How awful for you. Dumping is not as common with the sleeve but it does happen. For many it’s sugar or fat that will set it off. I’ve been fortunate & not had a full dumping attack. I had the symptoms just not too badly & it passed pretty quickly. For me it wasn’t sugar or fat that caused it but a Protein Bar that I’d often eaten without issue both before & after. Don’t know why it upset me that day.

I sometimes said my tummy was like a cantankerous two yr old who throws tantrums. I think my dumping experience was just another tantrum.

Give yourself a break from the foods you ate that day & the wine then try them again separately. That’s the only way to see if it was a particular food or even the rose that upset you or just your cantankerous tummy.

Thanks for the advice, I agree. I felt terrible on Friday, washed out on Saturday, had no BM's until about half an hour ago and boy that was terrible. I do think it's really not gone down well. Fingers crossed it's all gone and I can just have a couple of days on some bland liquids to reset.

I have to say, I thought I was having a bloody heart attack. The palpitations, racing heart, sweats etc were horrible.

Duping syndrome : Has anyone had dumping syndrome after glucose spike ( chocolate shake glcose 219 < last A1c 5.2 )with major glucose drop ( 54-66 ) and heart rate drop to upper 30's. Is this common with dumping . Guess I'm no longer Insulin Resistant. Thx :)

16 months out (Sleeve) Exact thing has happened to me. Last trigger an In&Out chocolate shake after a large piece of Lasagna . NO MAS !

      Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

        Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

        Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
