Revision from sleeve to Bypass

Recommended Posts

I joined this forum in 2012, but wasn't really active. One friend who I connected with on here and she vanished, so I just never really came back. I just had a revision from sleeve that was done Nov. 2012, to bypass on Tuesday. I had some GERD, but not severe, but full weight gain. I also was 30 pounds from goal weight at my lowest. I knew the sleeve wouldn't work for me, because it's not about how much I eat, but what I eat when I feel like eating.

You guys, this is HARD. Before sleeve, I didn't eat much, even less after. Now, I'm freaking dying to eat. Really, I just want coffee with my Creamer and I'll be good. I've always said, I could drink coffee all day and be fine. I can't get comfortable. I handle surgery really well, like shopping the day after hysterectomy, appendectomy, etc, but this?! I'm still on pain meds & anti nausea.

I could really use some encouragement, cuz I'm miserable. I need to know there's light even in a week. I'm really struggling. For those who have done this, any words of encouragement?

Remember this is just "head hunger" speaking to you. You will be fine. This too shall pass. Walk, walk, walk and sip, sip that Water as that is your fastest path to healing. Yes there is a light at the end of the tunnel and in a week you will feel so much better and it is all very well worth it. Let water be your new vice. You can have decaffeinated coffee- Maybe that would fill your craving and you could put some of your Protein Shake in for the creamer? Also, connect with as many Facebook groups that you can along with this one as they are very motivating and may help you stay on track. Good luck! You got this!

Thank you for the encouragement! I've been up for 5 hours. Pain in my lower back, hips, & legs so I can't sit for long, nor lay down, so I'm just walking circles in the house. I'm cleared for Protein Shakes on Tuesday and can't wait to try coffee with it. I've sneezed twice causing my belly button to bleed 😬. Lord have mercy, that hurts. I've been afraid to join any fb groups b/c I'm so afraid of judgement & ppl seeing I'm in a group, but ugh. Well, just gonna keep walking and drinking water!

The pain and all that comes with this revision will pass and you are going to feel great ! It just takes awhile.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
