I didn't find this to be true. My taste is the same, I hate the Protein Water and Protein drinks...the shakes are ok...just me talking here.

Most of my tastes seem to be the same so far it’s just the Protein Shakes that taste super sweet now. And I bought the variety pack before and after surgery. It must be one of the artificial sweeteners? Idk but the dietician is the one that warned me it may happen so it does happen to other people. I was going to stock up on a sale at Sam’s club and I’m really glad I didn’t because my favorite pre surgery which was cinnamon roll flavor tastes horrible to me now.

Hoping you get bumped up! I had my MD consult and pre-op classes today, along with my final labs, xrays and covid test. Was hoping for a surgery date next week, but really expected it to be further out...bariatric director pulled me out of class and asked me if I would want the cancellation spot on Monday! Thank goodness I have been doing the pre-op diet for over a week.

How long does it take for the incisions to heal enough that I can lay down and sleep more than an hour at a time? 2 days post-surgery

Had mine on 4/5. Starting to regret it. 😢
I am unable to move onto the purée phase because every time I try to eat something, I have wicked stomach cramps. Starting Week 3 of Protein shakes—I am so sick of them. 😭

After surgery I found that the Protein Shakes were too sweet. I have been drinking the clear Protein Drinks (premier protein) and am slowly going back to one shake a day since they are more nutritious. broth that you mix yourself is good so you can adjust it to your tastes which will change and for full liquid stage the cream of Soups were my go to (I mixed them with milk to make them a little creamier and I was able to add spices as tolorated so that helped). But definitely recommend having some clear Protein in case the shakes won’t go down as easy as expected.

April 12 svg - i did stock up on Bone Broth and Protein not realizing how little I'd consume. i found the protein premier drink a bit sweet so i cut it with Water which unfortunately makes more liquid to drink. it also leaves an aftertaste in my mouth that i don't like. today i bought fairlife high Protein Shake which I'm excited to try -i love their chocolate milk but its too high in sugar to drink now. on the the other hand, I'm loving the bone broths!

Do you mean that you cant sleep for more than 2 hours in any position at all OR just not in your preferred position?

I was not sleepy at all the first or second night at home. I propped myself up with pillows in bed and slept just a couple hours. Not due to pain, but just not sleepy. Then hours increased as the days went on, but it wasnt due to incisions. I actually didnt feel anything from my incisions. I did have some discomfort if I tried to sleep on my sides or if I laid down flat too long. But, it was more like internal discomfort and stomach discomfort, not external incisions. Now I am 10 days post surgery. I can sleep on my right side comfortably. NOT on my left though. And that seems opposite of many people on here. Also, my biggest incision is on my right. Seems odd that I feel more discomfort on the left when sleeping. I can sleep all night sometimes, but other days I wake up and have to walk or shift in bed. Like prop myself up.

Any pattern in what causes the cramps?

Surgery twins! I attempted to more to purée this morning and 2 seconds into my 3rd bite running to vomit 🤢 I’m praying it’s just because I had eggs and cheese goey I’m going to try ricotta bake tonight. Have you tried that? Gosh I hope I don’t have to do 2 more weeks of fluids. Good luck!

@BluesLily: None whatsoever. I tried eggs, no problem. Second time, cramps galore. Cottage cheese, first time, crazy pain. Second time ok until half way through. Pain with peaches. Pain with Greek yogurt, but not light yogurt. Fine with Tofu, until halfway through second portion. It’s random and VERY painful.

sleeping in any position, I can lay a little better on my left side than my right. I do have to walk a few times at night when my gas builds up.

How much do you get to eat on your purree plan? I mean how many ounces is one serving?

Ok. At just 2 days post surgery, I was up walking during the middle of the night also. Walking to help with the gas pains. Not really about my incisions. It was gas pain or body discomfort. But, it did get better as time went on. I expected some sleep issues given what I read during researching the surgery so I wasnt too upset about it. I actually thought I would be sleeping even less. I just walked around d the house in circles during the middle of the night. Hahaha

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
