Skin removal surgery

Thank you for sharing this information! This is very helpful. When I was living in NC I researched surgeons there but didn't find any that I felt would provide the results that I was looking for, just based on reviews that I had seen on their websites. I completed some very minimal research for surgeons within the US as well. I am excited about losing the rest of the weight and having skin surgery in the future. When I had my breast consult completed last year, the surgeon that I spoke with told me that ultimately I would need to also consider if I wanted to have any future surgeries before or after I have children because pregnancy can affect the results. However, I feel like because my skin has been stretched out from weight loss/gain over the years repetitively (especially in my abdomen area) if I were to get the skin removal surgery on my abdomen before I have children it will make a significant difference because the elasticity within the skin on will be reset to a certain degree, and there will not be as much stretching/sagging afterward.

The breast surgeon that I completed the consult with told me that pregnancy could potentially cause my breast to become raised and plumper. He also recommended breast implants and provided me with the side effects and other recommendations that come with that surgery. I will definitely research the surgeons you have recommended to see which one will be the best option for me financially and will go from there.

Thanks again for all of your help!

not sure where you are in NC (I lived in NC for many years!), but there are several surgeons around the country who deal primarily (or exclusively) with massive weight loss patients who did their residences under Joseph Hunstad in the Charlotte area. I don't know of anyone who's actually gone to Dr. Hunstad for surgery, but since he's trained so many specialists, he may be one to take a look at, too.

I just googled him - his website (hkbsurgery) is down at the moment

also - check realself.com for reviews done by patients. They review all kinds of doctors, but most seem to be plastic surgeons.

Is there a specific surgeon that anyone would recommend? Also, is it better to have multiple procedures completed at once, versus having one procedure completed at a time? I am just thinking about the cost financially and the cost that is associated with having multiple procedures completed previously before. I had a breast consult done completed last year and plan to have another consult done to talk about my stomach area but want to loose the remaining weight first (20-30 pounds).

Thanks for your recommendations!

I’m all for Medical Tourism for plastics.

I used to be into Miami but lately it seems too disorganized for my tastes. Just 1.5 years ago when I went I had a fantastic experience but it seems like delays and cancellations from COVID has taxed the way they (EVERY practice that is not private) are handling things.

However Colombia, Medellin specifically, and DR (to a lesser extent)is fantastic and highly affordable. In Medellin the health care is high quality. I say go with someone that can consistently provide the “look” you’re going for.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
