pdc1605 40 Posted March 6, 2021 Hey everyone! Got a new job and found that we have bariatric surgery coverage. I asked my PCP to send a referral to the bariatric clinic in my area. That was done the week of Thanksgiving 2020. Got a call from the clinic and met the surgeon December 17th. Only have three month supervised diet and have to lose one pound a month! Working through all my pre op requirements. Had my psychiatrist evaluation Thursday. She asked when was my quit smoking start date because my window of time is closing! I am freaked out! Most people I know have had 6 to 12 months before surgery date. This creeped up so fast! Only test left is the endoscopy scheduled for April 20th. After that blood work as well as nicotine compliance test. So TODAY is my quit day! I can do this! Waited twenty years for this opportunity! 3 GreenTealael, Creekimp13 and Kris77 reacted to this
mweiss1998 79 Posted March 6, 2021 You can do it. I quit 25 years ago and it was probably one of the best things I ever did for myself. I did it cold turkey and so can you! 3 STLoser, pdc1605 and GreenTealael reacted to this
catwoman7 11,220 Posted March 6, 2021 I'm a former smoker as well. Quit about 25 years ago. It's really tough, but there are a lot of people out there who've done it... 1 pdc1605 reacted to this
Creekimp13 5,840 Posted March 7, 2021 Former nicotine addict here, too. Only I wasn't a smoker. I used the gum as a diet aide during my decades of yoyo dieting... and got hooked on the damned gum....which is stunningly bizarre, I know...but can happen. Have not had any nic gum in over four years. Once in a blue moon I crave it like mad, but for the most part the cravings have passed. I won't use it again. 1 pdc1605 reacted to this

I used nicotine gum once in one of my numerous tries to quit smoking. Like you, I got hooked on the gum after awhile, too! Although nicotine is highly addictive, so... 1 pdc1605 reacted to this
