COVID VACCINE- Did your Doctor tell you to wait a specific amount of time before getting Vaccine after surgery?

I can get the vacccine on Tuesday which will be 14 days since surgery my surgery. I believe I heard to wait 20 days. I am not waiting. I want the Pfizer shot, which this is, If I wait much longer it will be J&J. I am going!

I am 63 so yes...I believe a qualify as an adult more so than many. From what I have read The mayo Clinic says not to get the Vaccine immeaditely before surgery, so I should be good on that front. Still looking for answers to the question as to any discussion others may have had with their doctors. Thanks

I, too, and 63. I, too, am an adult more or less. It's sorta meant humorously, as we all are sometimes more adult and sometimes less.

For example, this is one of those times I would do actual research and look at studies done related to this question. I would not really ask for anecdotes on the internet.

So, as I said, make an informed choice, not one based on strangers on the internet. Including mine.

Thanks for your input. I have resarched as I stated earlier. I was putting a topic out there that may need to be discussed by "strangers" on here as this could become more prevalent for many now and in the near future. Thanks again.

I was in line at work for a 1st/2nd shot that would have put dose #2 1 day before surgery and my surgeon suggested I schedule my shots so that #2 was at least a week post op. The reason being you want to be able to discern between the 2nd Covid vax fever/chills/headache from any surgical complications. Fortunately for me the medical facility I work in is large enough and has enough vaccine clinics that I was able to do mine 1 week before and 2 weeks after.

I had plastic surgery in early January. My surgeon said not to get the vaccine 30 days before or after surgery. Reason being, a vaccine creates an immune response with possible inflammation which can impede healing. I’m a nurse at a large public health hospital and was able to talk to our doc heading up the COVID response team. He agreed this is best practice. I ended up getting my first vaccine just shy of 4 weeks post op and did just fine.

I think they want you to wait to make sure your body is up to the task of fighting it off. My dad’s friend got the shot not knowing that he had recently had COVID with no symptoms and he died because his body wasn’t able to fight off the shot so soon after fighting off the virus. And he was a doctor so he had more information about it than the average person. There’s just so much that’s still unknown about COVID and the vaccine, I’d follow any guidelines they have set based on what we DO know. I’d personally wait, especially if you’re not going to be back at work where you’re around strangers all day everyday. But like you said, you’re an adult so do what you want. It’s all just scary to me. Hope it goes well!
