Hello! I had gastric sleeve Monday March 1st. Recovery seems a bit rough at this point. Having trouble keeping things down so my Dr. made me switch back to Clear Liquids, waters and SF Gatorade only. I keep getting these horrible horrible gas/air pains in my stomach and chest. Any tips and tricks to a smoother recovery?

I am sorry that you are having a rough time with your recovery so far. The most important thing you can do is just absolutely 100% follow everything your doctor tells you that you are supposed to do. I know some of it can seem stupid or pointless but they tell you to do it for a reason. The clear liquid diet part is rough to do; I'm sorry you have to go back to that.

I think the best thing you can do for your gas/air pains is to be active. I don't mean you need to go out and start playing basketball or training for a marathon. Just make sure you are getting up and walking around often enough. The movement of your body helps to get all that air out of you quicker.

Anyway, congratulations on having your surgery! Even though you are a little miserable now, I promise you that it is worth it. Stick with it and welcome to this community!! Good luck! You got this! 😁

I had gas pains after as well. Moving helps eliminate this. Walk around the house etc.
def do small sips. Follow your Dr orders always helps. Good luck and welcome to the club

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
