Quick Question: Does any liquid count towards water goal?

Recommended Posts

Im struggling to get 60 oz of Water a day. I can gulp the water fine but between the hour + it takes me to eat anything and the constant fullness, I just don't seem to get all my water in. Can I count any liquid (like Protein Shakes, Soups, and icees) as part of my water intake? Or should it just be water?

I was told that up to half of my Fluid goal could be from non-clear liquids. In other words, I was supposed to get at least 30 ounces of Clear Liquids and I could count up to 30 ounces of Protein Drinks toward my total 60 ounces.

Great! I'll ask my nutritionist if I can do that too! Thanks!

I was told that only Water counted as water. Soup was counted as a meal. Protein drinks were also counted as meal, or snack.

I have a feeling my nutritionist will agree with this rather than BigSue... :(

I'm still pre-op, but my nutritionist was telling me yesterday to get the unflavored clear Protein Powder mix in for post-op, as then i will be able to get in my Protein and hydration together, especially in the beginning. Maybe thats another strategy, by switching them around to get both.

I count all fluids as long as they're non-caffeinated (i.e., I do NOT count coffee). But check with your dietitian - yours may have a different opinion than mine.

My nutritionist said that any liquid counts as Fluid. I was kind of surprised.

Yay! My nutritionist said I can count Protein drinks. She said no to Soup though but that's okay.

Thanks for the advice! I wouldn't have thought to ask without it! I'm still not a 60 oz but I don't feel like as much of a failure now :)

What's the best clear unflavored Protein powder?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
