I don't mean to scare you - but a lot of us (at least VSGers and RNYers) deal with chronic Constipation - so even though that first one post-surgery is a doozy, it's likely not to be the last! Miralax may become your best bud (or stool softeners - or magnesium tablets - or whatever works for you...)

either one work. Some people have a preference one way or the other. I take a capful of Miralax every morning - it usually does the trick.

I’ve just resigned to the fact that I’m only going once every three or four days. It’s killed my quiet reading time.

It does get a little better when you can start to eat some real food again. Those first couple months are the plain ass devil. I prayed a few times to just let me die, and came out of the bathroom looking like I ran a marathon.

I also recommend looking into abdominal massage, hot tea and a heating pad on poop days!!!

Happy pooping

I need to get into a routine and take some stool softeners or something. I can't deal with that very often. Happy Pooping! :)

I know this is the Guy's Room...but watch your Iron intake too...mine was off the charts (I was taking 45mg per day) and it is very constipating.

Good morning guys.... @Tim C My husband tries to remember to put in my morning coffee. The Murilex that is. But sometimes it'll be 5-7 days and I have to take a Dulcolax..... Let me done tell ya Sha'.... Dat chit works.... (you have to say it in a cajun accent). You also may want to invest in Preparation H...... Just saying.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
