Hello!

3/3 is my RNY surgery and I am so nervous!!! I have never been cut open before. I’ve waited for this so long but I am so scared! Any tips on how to try to relax?

We have the same date. I’ve never had surgery before either (well a c-section) but I know how you feel. First off we won’t be cut open because it is laparoscopic and my surgeon said you’ll only remember about 30 seconds before surgery once you wake up it’ll be over. So I just keep thinking about that!

Tiny cuts and not painful. You wont feel a thing - Ask you doc for a happy pill when you first get there

I find comfort in information (but too much is also not good). I did not look at other people’s personal experiences only at statistics and medical procedure videos. *This may not work for you, so focus on what works*

Once I felt confident with the procedure,
I began to visualize my life after surgery in the most positive light.

I had this idealized version of myself standing on a balcony at night in a tropical climate with a white grecian dress on happily smiling. I was healthy and fit.

Another was siting on a giant comfortable sofa with workout clothing on drinking a cup of tea. Again peaceful, fit and comfortable with myself.

Neither one of those scenarios have happened (yet 🤞🏽) but now I look and feel exactly how I imagined. Hope that helps ❤️

Things will go well for you. It’s once your team meets with you before your surgery you’ll be comforted by knowing you’ll have a new journey post op. You want remember much after the give you meds. I just remember being rolled away and waking up. Best to you!

I saw the entrance to the operating room, then woke up in recovery. The magic of anesthesia

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
