Weight Watchers for 1+ year post-VSG?

Recommended Posts

I am 16 months post-VSG and not quite to my goal (but surpassed my medical team's goal). I do eat Protein first and get 90+ oz of Water in a day, but I find that I am grazing more often and not eating on-plan sometimes. I know the "go back to basics" and the typical bariatric responses to keep going on my weight loss, but I'm wondering if anyone has thoughts/experiences/etc. specifically about Weight Watchers (WW+) post-VSG? Good, bad, opinions?

I haven't tried it, but I know several bariatric "vets" who've used WW to deal with regain, and most of them really like it.

I went for a while cause there was a super fun motivational leader (you have to like this person), and getting weighed weekly made me super accountable. Definitely explain that you're gonna do your own thing with the diet...but that you want the community, support, recipes, etc. You won't be the only one:) I enjoyed it....then Covid happened. LOL.

I was already going to WW when I started the process for WLS so I just kept up with it. I kept with it after WLS for the support I got from the members. I figured I had given them so much of my money I may as well get my lifetime membership and the once weekly weigh in was motivating and what I considered my "official" weight. Only a couple of my friends there know I had WLS but there are several people there that have had surgery and are there for regain. I still use WW and WLS surgery guidelines combined. I use very little of my WW points because I eat mostly the healthier zero point foods. I do weekly Zoom meetings and my once a month in person weigh in. My WLS group only offers a once a month support group and it's currently online when I work so I usually miss it.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
