Getting Stuck

Recommended Posts

I got banded on the 19th and have not felt any restriction at all but am still on real soft foods. I'm not trying to hurry through the steps so I don't think I've eaten over a cup of anything at one time. I'm glad someone else isn't getting the full feeling-sometimes you just think you're the only one going through some of this stuff I guess.

Hey Kristin-

Sorry you had to go through that. I haven't had a stuck experience yet but have come close and all due because of eating to fast or not chewing well. I kind of feel like it is going down to hard. This feeling is sometimes telling me I am full to. This band is so finicky and I can't figure anything out but what I have found to work is eating only when I am hungry and following the portions set out by my dietician. I stop whether I am full or not and 99% of time I am satisified.

Did I happen to mention that I love my Band..

hi!

if you just got banded, and have not had a fill, you have NO restriction...didn't anyone explain that to you? what you feel, is the tightness of the band, around your stomach, and it will take time to settle, and heal. After your first fill, you will know what restriction is...right now you have none! It is just time to get used to the band, let your tummy heal, and then you will recieve your first fill. Watch out, the weight will start to come off even more, good luck to you!

I think there's some confusion regarding this point. My doc said when he inserts the band, it does restrict somewhat - now, as to whether or not it gives you a feeling of restriction is another thing. That's how he explained it to me. I wish there was a manual on this, as well as the eating, and every single doc followed it, because it is all rather confusing the different opinions all docs have.

Actually, it's my understanding that it will take several fills before most of us get restriction -- or at least, enough restriction to make a difference. I had my first fill Friday and I can tell absolutely no difference and my doctor said I probably wouldn't. I'm still following the rules, though, and I'm grateful that I haven't been hungry since I had the surgery.

No real restriction here either even after my first fill. I'm at 5 cc in my 10 cc band. I'm not terribly hungry, but I can eat way too much. I've only dropped 1/2 pound in the last couple weeks. (Is this Bandster Hell?) Anyway, 2nd fill tomorrow morning. I hope to get closer to the good restriction.

Take care.

Sorry, I probably didn't make any sense! :) This is what I understand as well - that it may take many fills to get restriction in that you can't physically eat anymore. What I meant was that at surgery, the band is around your stomach, and it does somewhat restrict things going down - as in, there's a band now where before there wasn't, so it does slow the food somewhat, giving a BIT of restriction in that way. Hmm, I'm starting to confuse myself now! :D

I was responding to JSOTO, who said, "After your first fill, you will know what restriction is."

I didn't have any trouble understanding you and I agree with you!

Well I can eat a lot more now than I have been. I haven't put on any weight but haven't lost anything in a week. I definitely need more restriction. Hopefully my 2nd fill will do that.

I had 11-9 surgery date, out of town, so I feel "out of the loop!" I had a fill 12-10, but only 1cc. I get full sooner, but hungry too soon.

What are you eating. I'm confused by all the food lists! Isnt it common "Diet sence"?

what? we all know that this doesnt make any sense, you can eat food, but liquid gets stuck? Im confused, or you havent really been banded, or you are really a unique situation...sort of hard to believe!!! what does you doc say???

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
