Can anybody relate to a very slooooow weight loss from the start?

I have never posted but I’m so discouraged I dont know where to turn. I originally had the lap band in 2010. I had great results at first. I developed some great work out habits then fell off and gained back the entire 121lbs. July 7 2020 I did a conversion from band to sleeve. Since then up to today (2/24/21)I have only lost 40.8 lbs. I have not been able to exercise. Not even walk due to an ankle injury that I’ll have surgery for next month. But still my expectations were so much higher. I see so many ppl that had the sleeve at the same time as me losing so much more. That depresses me and I go emotionally eat. A viscous cycle. Can anybody relate to the slow weight loss and how did u turn it around. Plz help guys! I feel like a WLS failure twice!!!

:1341_raised_hand_tone2:Me. I can relate to slow weight loss with the sleeve and for many of the same reasons you've stated.

I had a lap band in 2005. Did great, but was miserable and later found out that my band had slipped. I had it taken out in 2009 and did pretty well maintaining my weight until I had some major life changes and did some stress eating. Gained all of my weight back over the course of 2 years. Had a sleeve done in 2018 and my weight loss was slow but steady. I'm still not at goal, but I'm happy and feeling good. COVID lockdown has totally stalled me and maybe added a few, but my tool is still there and when I'm ready, I'm confident I'll get back on track.

Stay the course. Follow your plan. It will work. (side note: it is my understanding that revisions typically lose slow. Something to do with the impact on our metabolism. Sort of a "been there-done that" mentality.) Good luck!

^^^ I agree with this 100%. We see posts on here from "revisionists" who say the weight loss is much slower from them than it is from "virgin" surgeries. Just follow your plan. As long as your weight is trending downward, you're good.

I had lap band in 2009, it slipped in 2017, and I had it revised to bypass December 2020. I lost 16 pounds in two weeks then nothing for over a month. I worry that our bodies already got used to the lower calorie intake from when we were banded. I also think that is why I gained so much when my band slipped because I was eating “normal” amounts of food, but my body had been set at band amounts for a decade! I’ve finally started losing slowly again in the last week. I too got discouraged reading people’s posts about their significant and quick weight loss, I was starting to feel like a failure. But we each have our own journey and I wish you all the best on yours.

I was slow but steady. Hard to be patient when everyone else seems to be losing so fast. Stay the course....you're doing fine. Don't count your success as numbers on the scale. Count it in days you've followed your plan and how well you've followed your plan. Eventually, the numbers on the scale show that effort, I promise.

Me. Mine was 7/9/20 and I've lost 50 pounds? Started out at 213 5'5" and although my nutritionist wants no less than 1200 calories a day and just 81-90g of Protein, I've eaten less, done a reset and exercised. I haven't binged or emotionally eaten but... I have a glass of wine now and then and don't adhere to Keto or 500 calories a day. I hesitate to come here because although I find it helpful, my surgeon's approach is not typical and I read about super fast weight loss and feel bad. I'm now worried about meeting goal by 1 year. And I know there are people here with similar stats to mine that are now 115 pounds. But as my surgeon says, this is for life. It's not a race. I'm in my late 30's and sure, I can up my workouts to twice a day and starve like I have in the past but that's not why I did self-pay surgery. I do worry but on the bright side, I'll have less saggy skin and hopefully the changes in skin won't age me so harshly. You're not a failure! Just focus on small things like meeting protein and Water goals and it will come off.

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
