Breanne (w 2 pups) 11 Posted February 20, 2021 I’ve been going over my pre-surgery information (gastric bypass). It specifies that the Protein I need to take after surgery has to be whey protein. Does anybody know why or have any experience with this? I’ve done some online searching and collagen protein seems better Thanks, Breanne
catwoman7 11,221 Posted February 20, 2021 (edited) whey Protein isolate is more easily absorbed by us than other types, so that's what's recommended, at least early out when you're not getting much protein from food. Once you're getting most if not all of your protein from food, other types of protein are OK (and a lot of people don't even continue with Protein Shakes once they're far enough out to get their protein needs met through food). Keep in mind that our altered digestive systems aren't the same anymore as a normal person's, so some things that might apply to most people won't necessarily apply to us. Guest Posted February 20, 2021 How lucky, I just tried to figure this out yesterday, too. @catwoman7 is right! Once you're comfortably making sure you're getting your Protein, don't be afraid to add some collagen protein, too.
mweiss1998 79 Posted February 20, 2021 Perfect timing. I am going out to get some Protein Powder and was wondering the same thing. Thanks for the question and the answers!
Uomograsso 364 Posted February 20, 2021 (edited) Whey Protein is a complete protein. collagen protein is not. A complete protein is one source that provides all of the nine essential amino acids in adequate amounts. Collagen Protein is Incredible. But it is NOT Complete. Collagen, however, is a unique type of protein. It is not complete, meaning, it does not have all 9 essential amino acids that a complete protein requires.
