What do you mean by "slider" foods?

A slider food is usually an easily digestible food, mostly carbohydrates, that isn’t super nutritionally dense. This article explains it better than I can-

You have to find what works for you. That is what allows you to maintain your weight, be healthy & enjoy your life. You don’t want a diet that is so restrictive that it limits you doing the things you enjoy or affects your health. It’s as simple as that & also as hard. Lots of trial & error over time. Do your own research. Try recommendations from people on this forum.

I still don’t eat rice, Pasta or bread or bread alternatives like wraps. I did try a soybean pasta that others here recommended a couple of months back but even the tiny bit I had didn’t sit well & was too filling. I was surprised though at how well it cooks & it tasted similar to wheat pasta. It’s way better than vegetable pastas were years ago. I have tried cauliflower rice but I don’t like it very much. I enjoy zucchini noodles a lot.

I used to eat quite a lot of bread, rice & pasta but I avoid them now cause I think they contributed to my past weight gain. I don’t really miss them. I also avoid them because if I can only eat a cup of food, I’m going to make sure it’s nutrient rich. I get my carbs from fruit, vegetables, rolled oats & some multigrain crackers. It’s working for me but it may not work for you.

Good luck.

I don't eat bread at all. Mostly because the one time I had low carb bread I dumped and I haven't wanted to even so much as attempt it again... I don't eat regular rice at all either. I substitute with cauliflower rice. Regular rice swells and I don't want to chance stretching my pouch out so I only eat the cauliflower rice. As for pasta... I only eat veggie Pasta noodles. Chickpea is my favorite to use, but I've used lentil and zucchini as well. Mostly because pasta is useless carbs and at least if you use veggie pasta you're choosing a healthier option that's not quite as useless and fits in a pasta craving. I rarely eat pasta though. Maybe once every two weeks or so? I DO have some chickpea noodles and alfredo sauce currently in my pantry... I just haven't done anything with them yet, though maybe I'll have that tonight for dinner. It's an idea...
I was a BIG pasta eater also, but everything NovaLuna said is what I did before surgery (I havent moved up to that yet since surgery) and it satisfied me very well.

In my experience it depends a lot on the brand.

Hi there, being Italian I know exactly how you feel about possibly never eating Pasta again lol. I found these noodles at metro, tofu based, there is even white yam based ones. Anyways... I make sauce regular and then use these Shirataki noodles. You should try them!!! It’s not exactly pasta, but pretty damn close.

A few people have suggested the Shirataki noodles. I may just have to try them. I have to stay away from anything "white", as I does not digest well.

I am also not able to digest anything white....but I am not sure if that is because I am only 2 months post-op. Sometimes it is sad to know I cant ever have a thin crust pizza again, but then I think about how much of it I have had in my life and that there are so many substitutes to things that I cant even complain.

I wanted to try and make homemade Pasta with almond flour.... I will let you know how it turns out.

I am 6 months post op, but I have Chrons Disease so I can't eat a lot of things. When I think about all the pizza I used to eat, it makes me feel sick. Hubby and I used to order a large peperoni with extra cheese, a large steak and cheese sub, fries, and chicken wings, and eat all of it at one time. Gross!! We always talk about how much food we used to eat. Now I can only eat 1 piece of small cheese pizza, and I am stuffed. LOL

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
