So...what's up with SALAD?

Recommended Posts

i am just now starting to enjoy salads. i never really liked them pre-band (imagine that - a fat girl who doesnt do salads ;))

lately i've actually been craving them. a little bit of spicy ranch and some Tomato on top ... yummmie.

going in for another fill today though, so who knows if i'll be able to tolerate them for long.

I eat salad for lunch and dinner, usually with whatever meat I have made for my family... I don't have a problem with it at all. I do however, have a problem with rice, which is a good thing, cause before the band I could eat at least 2 bowls of rice then my meal, I call my band.. my will power! Thats how I look at it.. can't eat bread, can't eat rice, can't drink soda.. that's my will power.

I usually can have salad, but I had trouble with it today. I had a lot of raw veggies in there, and got stuck. I did chew really well too.

I have a new fill so I have to learn to slow down and take much smaller bites.

I can't eat my favorite salad right now  And of course, I'm craving it like the dickens since I can't have it.

Anyone that can eat salads with stuff in it.. go enjoy a black & bleu salad for me. Sniffs.

I'm hit or miss with salad. Somedays they go down, other days they don't. I've had 2 really bad PBs on salad that I recall, so I just generally avoid them if possible. It's actually nice, because I spent so many years dieting and only eating salad. I can get my veggies in so many other ways that don't cause pain, so why bother?!

I think I may try some lettuce at home in a controlled environment before venturing out and ordering a side salad with my slab of chicken...

I'm good with bread, i only eat whole grain for the Fiber, scared to try rice, ok with Pasta though I avoid it at all costs to avoid white carbs. I havn't tried raw veggies, I drink v8 and steam the hell out of my veggies, I still keep those mushy and to avoid the gas pain... don't need any help with that. I eat a lot of Beans. Fiber and Protein... it's like the perfect food (for me anyway)

Thanks for everyone's input on the salad, I was starting to get worried.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
