Horrible gas pain...STILL!

Recommended Posts

FIVE WEEKS AFTER SURGERY. Things are even worse! I got the bad and dealt with horrible, I mean horrible GAS PAIN! And to all you lap banders it does go away! It takes like 4 days, may be 5. Its excruciating and walking is the answer. Forget Gas-X, Beano, and all the others. The gas is in your cavity and needs to be absorbed. Eat up your pain med and get some stool softener cause pain med binds you up, though your mostly on liquids then anyway.

But the tragedy on my band is that I got an infection where the port is. Second one in all the thousands of bands my doctor has done. After the gas pain receded I had major pain all through my body. They found out I had a blood clot infection, probably due to the ban on hempfren and switch to Lovenox, and I was rushed into emergency surgery. They cut my big incision back open and drained it and now am left with a giant open wound on my stomach. The good news, at FIRST, was after the emergency surgery my pain was ALL GONE! Yet days after a horrible pain that travels from my left side, to my crotch, and to my right side has been going on for over 4 weeks. Everyday its in a new spot in my lower abdomen. The doctors are baffled and have no clue what it is. They says its still GAS somehow. I have had a cat scan and blood work up the ass and no answers! Everything says I'm fine but I have such bad pain I can't move! I have been living on my pain meds again and now the doctors are thinking "outside the box" and may think its a weird Colon infection due to all the antibiotics I have been taking or the tube to my band is wrapped around something they can't pin-point on the cat scan.

Let me tell you I wish I never got this damn surgery! So much pain! So much trouble! So much time lost at work! I was healthy and just over weight. Barely passed a 40 BMI. Wife wants me healthy and I wanted to shed those pounds dieting would not do for me. I WISH I just stayed fat and never wasted my time. I feel this pain will never go away. It more then just gas and I think is unsolvable. Also dealing with this GIANT open wound. Its shrunk half way but is pretty disgusting and painful pulling gauze in and out and having to change it everyday. I can't swim. Waste of my time! If this pain is not answered I don't know what I am gonna do. I do heavy work and my job. Will not be able to continue with this abdomen pain. Well if any of this has happened to you please let me know! The doctors aren't used to this. Most surgeries are 100% successful.

I too have had two fills on 5/29 and on 6/26. Total of 6cc's. So far have had very little discomfort with or after the fills. Did not lose much weight the second month but look forward to this next month. The first fill did not have much affect, I was able to eat anything I wanted as well as practically as much as I wanted. Granted, I didn't want as much as I did pre-surgury. As stated before I didnt loose much but I did loose inches, between 10-12 inches in the waist. All good and I also would do it again.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
