My absolute favorite meat is steak. Filet Mignon to be specific. I waited until now, almost 6 months post op to try to eat it. I could only eat 3 small bites, and it felt like lead in my belly. I was so full, and felt sick afterwards. How long did everyone wait to eat it? Is it too soon? Maybe I should have waited like a yr.?

3 years after the surgery, and still could eat just a few bits of a steak. I just learned to enjoy every bit :)

Ohhhh noooo. This is not good news. I thought maybe if I waited long enough I could enjoy more of it. Do you eat pork chops? I haven't tried those yet.

I'm 3+ months past bypass and I've had steak twice. The first time I ended up sick, but the last time I took very small bits, chewed thoroughly, and enjoyed a fillet mignon over 5 days!

Wow 5 days. That is a long time. I guess I will just have to be patient.

I ate it a few months out. Key is to cut it into itsy bitsy teeny weenie pieces and chew very very well. I've never had a problem with it.

Some people do have trouble with steak just like some have issues with eggs. As with all things you can only try & see how you go. If you’re not successful, don’t give up just wait a month & try again.

I could eat steak from about month 3. I waited a few weeks once I was on solid food before I tried. I had no issues & it still tasted darn good. I started off with a very small serve, sliced it in to small pieces & ate slowly. I can eat about 80-100g of fillet steak now & do just about every week. Yumm.

I love filet mignon! I think I started eating steak about six months out. Over the next months, I found that eating meat sometimes would cause a feeling of "over-fullness" but most of the time would not. To this day, it's unpredictable. For example, two days ago, I ate some chicken and had to go lie down because of the sudden "over-fullness" sensation. But about 80% of the time (or more) I don't experience any problems when I eat meat. As someone else mentioned, it's important to cut the meat into very small pieces.

Several people have said to cut it up very small. I will do that and try again soon.

I got a 7 oz steak on Sunday and worked on it over two days and didn't finish it completely. It was fine in small bites, but it would have been painful to eat it all at once.

How funny, I was just talking to my hubby about this. I LOVE a good blue fillet steak.....

I would take one mouthful only, chew chew, add a sauce of some sort, and see how it sits. Volume is everything post op and I'm frequently overloading my tiny plate thinking I can eat more. I'm 7 weeks post op and can manage 2 tbs of food at a time. I have a quarter meat/protein, a quarter starch/carb, and half veges.

Apparently, cutting into small, tiny little bites, and chewing forever is the key. LOL At least that is what I have got from everyone on here so far.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
