Recommended Posts

Not to beat a dead horse here but...You were just asking about this on Saturday and Everybody here said it was a bad idea. I dont have my surgery until next week but and I am not really a sweets person but you have got to use this tool to be sucessful. I hope you get to feeling better and learn from this experience. Good luck on your journey.

You may need to take something for anxiety. Your family doctor should be able to write something for you. I take something daily myself.

It sounds like this might be more than about the food itself. Have you considered seeing a psychiatrist or therapist? I’ve heard so many times that this process is more mental than anything.

If you ate candy at only 5 days post op you would have been extremely sick. I hope that you are not doing this to yourself. Please contact your doctor.

I’m 5 days post op from my gastric sleeve surgery today I just ate candy I’m really mad at my self it was orange slices candy

What matters most is what you do next. If you continue eating junk food, you won't lose as much as you could and you won't keep off what you do lose. You've already gone through surgery, are you going to waste it? These next few months could be a period of easy weight loss but you have to do your part.

She had the sleeve, not the bypass, so she wouldn't necessarily be sick from the candy. It's still a really bad idea though and a form of self-sabotage.

First step is to forgive yourself. No amount of negative thoughts will un-eat that candy.

Next step is to find a therapist that specializes in disorded eating.

It can be so hard to be trapped in this thought pattern, and feel free to PM if you need to, or to share your thoughts wherever. Nobody is judging here, I think we've all had enough of that throughout our lives.

First get it all out of your house. If you don’t have any junk food in your cupboards, you can’t eat it. Secondly, don’t buy it or get anyone to buy it for you. Thirdly, find a good therapist to support you with your anxiety & food issues. And finally, if you want the surgery to help you, pick yourself up & start back on your program. It’s up to you to make this work but never be afraid to ask for help.

This!!!! I'm on day 7 and although I haven't felt "hungry" my mental cravings are strong! I'm not big on sweets and all the Jello and Popsicles are not doing it for me. I crave salts! I'm just soooooo happy I got rid of all the chips and salts I crave. I KNOW I would have caved otherwise. I found a bag of sunflower seed that made it and yesterday I put 2 in my mouth and just sucked the salt! I spit it out though because I am scared to eat solids early and didn't think 2 seed were worth all the pain I went through post op.

Whenever I find myself going on a "Can I really do this" spiral, I either go to sleep or skim all the threads on here. It really helps!

You have to keep your eye on the prize, and remember why you had surgery. Forget everything else. For now anyway. Concentrate on following your plan and doing what they tell you to do. As hard as it is right now, it is a very valuable time for your weight loss. It will never be as easy to lose weight as it will be for the next 6 months. And remember that recovery is temporary. You'll feel better soon. Follow that plan. Good luck.

One of the recommendations from my dietician was to see a psychologist as part of the process. This tool is only one part of a lifestyle change, and not the easy way out. My foods were fine beforehand, but the volume I was eating was out of control. Also alcohol was a crutch for me too manage my extremely demanding life. So I have stopped drinking, and managing stress in other ways.

If you aren't ready to make holistic changes, I would seriously reconsider the surgery and delay it. Find a bariatric specialised psychologist who can really delve into your dependency that I think you are eluding to.

You can do this, believe me. But maybe not right now.... just my thoughts. Xxx

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
