I'm 6 weeks post op and no matter what I eat, I feel ill. I hate food now. I never want to eat anymore, I'm barely able to eat anything. When I eat, it hurts. When I drink (sip!), it hurts. I get dry heaves almost daily. I'm having a hard time meeting my macros, my meds make me feel sick too. Haven't met with my (b***h) doctor yet- she has the worst bedside manner I have EVER encountered! I do not feel confident or comfortable talking to her at all about my issues. I've even tried switching to another program but that "just isn't done." I hope this passes, I feel so hopeless rn.

This sounds terrible. I have no advice, just wanted to say someone is listening. Hugs!

I'm so sorry!! Can you drink Protein Shakes if you take tiny little sips? Is there anything that you can keep down if you take a tiny tip or teaspoon?

I can keep stuff down, mostly. I just start retching for a few minutes, then just have this sort of malaise all day. I'm so sick of Protein Shakes omg, but I guess that's all I've got really. I'm so bummed.

I'm so sorry Suzi. I hated food too. I didn't have the kinds of problems you are having, but food just didn't taste the same. I only ate because I had to.

The one thing I really enjoyed was the Bariatric Pal hot chocolate. I know at 6 weeks out they do not advise this for our meals, however I figured it was better than not getting any nutrients.

Please know we are all thinking of you and hope this will pass soon for you. ❤

I feel the same way but I’m only 2 weeks out. I’ve gone through 3 different kinds of Protein Shakes and I just hate them. I give up half way through one. Anything I put in my stomach makes me feel ill. I’ve been able to avoid throwing up thus far but there have been a number of close calls. The only thing I enjoy is a glass of COLD Water (I’m talking ice to the rim and slowly trickling in some bottles water every couple minutes.)

My mother keeps trying to make me eat something but I really don’t want to. Everytime I eat I end up spending the next 1-2 hours actively trying to keep it down.

I love this, too. What a neat way to get some Protein in. I get two at a time :D Edit: who the h*ll is in a program where you can't even have that? US surgeons puzzle me, to say the least.

Maybe you could try some clear Protein Drinks to sip on during the day. I think that food will sound more and more appetizing as the weeks pass, the dry heaves will stop, and you'll have more energy. I'm just over three months out and I'm just now getting to where I really feel like eating. The first couple of months I had problems with throwing up after I ate, but it's only happened once the past month, thank goodness. So hang in there, it will get better. And good luck with your next doc visit. Hope she's not in b***h mode!!

Your just a month an almost two weeks out, I was the same way. It does get better, my food of choice was popsicles, Jello and ice Water (sips). Nothing taste the same after surgery, water I found if you buy the more expensive brand it goes down better. Maybe add a sports drink zero to your water, I could take Protein drinks before surgery but after it was a no go. Hang in there it will get better.

I feel your pain. I could not eat, or drink for a month after surgery. It made me so nauseous. If I even took a sip of Water, I was sick. My doc gave me a script for Patches you wear behind your ear for nausea. It helped a lil bit.

Please be careful though, I ended up in the hospital because I was so dehydrated. I had to go twice, and spend almost the whole day there getting IV's.

The second month got a tiny bit better, after that it will get increasingly better. I thought it never would.

Now I am 6 months post op, and I am doing so much better.

The thing is, I DO get hungry- a little. Not head hunger, but actual "if you don't eat you will faint!" hunger. The food tastes fine, just often things make me feel ill. And I get the dry heaves sometimes more than an hour later, it's weird.

I am 1.5 years out Roux n y. There are times when I still have some nausea after meals. I found out real quick that sugar is a definite no-no for me. Usually if I eat out, I blame it on the fat content / oil something is cooked in. Sometimes it is trial & error for me. I HATE being nauseated, so I am very choosy about what I eat. I still drink a Protein Shake daily or at least every other day. Helps maintain the Protein level. Also protein Water which helps prevent dehydration.

Your health care professionals work for you. Replacing any doctor is your decision. However, you must be willing to do the work needed to find a replacement in a timely manner; and, to evaluate exactly why you believe this relationship is not in your best interest.

Do you have someone reliable who you can talk this through with? Someone who cares enough to tell you if You are the problem? Is there someone willing to accompany you and act as your advocate in dealing with the medical staff? Can someone assist you in communicating your needs and responding to the reply?

Should all indications conclude that you are not getting the care you need FIRE YOUR DOCTOR. "This is not done" is no reason to jeopardize you health. Get copies of your medical records from the doctor's office and the hospital.

Replacing your follow up care professionals may not be easy but it can be done. Understanding exactly what is wrong with this relationship will help you to find a good fit for the future.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
