How much can you eat 1.5-2 years post vsg (VOLUME AND CALORIES)

Recommended Posts

I realize everyone is different and I should not compare, but I am curious how much you are able to eat at one time 1.5-2 years post vsg.
How many oz/ meal?
How many calories to for you personally to maintain?
How many calories for you personally to lose?

Thanks!

I'm eating around 4oz per meal, and around 250-350 calories per big meal (50-150 per snack).

I've slowed down on my weight loss because I'm enjoying where I'm at, and I maintain around 1350 calories. If I eat 1200 or less, I lose.

I'm a little over three years out. If i'm getting 10,000 steps a day (I usually do) I can eat 1600 calories a day easily and maintain. If I want to lose weight I go down to 1200-1400.

Volume is still pretty restricted.. I don't think I could eat more than a cup of food in a sitting.....but I can eat about every two hours...so I can still get into trouble if I'm not making good choices, eating too frequently, not counting calories.

Almost 9 months out. I can eat 4-5 oz of lean meat and 1 cup of dense veggies, cooked (spinach, zucchini, snap peas, etc) or two cups of fluffy veggies, raw (shredded cabbage, greens, salads, etc). 280-300 calories per meal (900-1,000 per day). A gallon of water/day. Still losing, but slower.

I'm 2+ years out. Been in maintenance for 1.5+ years.

5'2", 115 lbs, almost-50 yr old female.

These days I run 5K 1-2 times a week, and walk/hike for the other days of the week for 1-2 hours; very minimal strength training (maybe once a week - if that - for about 20-30 mins)

How many oz/ meal?
It depends on what I am eating. salad greens a lot more than “normal”; Pork & fluffy bread a lot LESS than “normal”. My “normal” I would say is about 1 cup of food volume at a time.

How many calories to for you personally to maintain?
Given my current activity level, its about 1800 (When I was exercising more, I was able to pack in 2000+)

How many calories for you personally to lose?
Again, for my current activity level, probably around 1400-1500. If I don’t exercise, then less than that…I’d guess 1200? I dunno for sure…

I'm 10 years out. Two eggs scrambled with just is just slightly more than I can fit. But chips, popcorn and icecream? Space seems unlimited. Basically if I stick to the first advice my doctor gave to always eat Protein first I'm very full and can't eat again for quite awhile. My capacity hasn't changed in years.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
