Feeling so unprepared...

Recommended Posts

You know I've researched for over a year, spent countless night watching other people's journey, taking class and I still feel as if I fell short. For the first time since my surgery (Jan 22nd) I broke completely down, I knew it was going to be hard but you never realize how truly difficult it is until you go through it. Tomorrow is my birthday and I've been a bit depressed so I got my favorite Indian dish pureed and just couldn't...it made me cry. The struggle of eating and constantly feeling it go to my stomach or swallowing to much air and getting gas, having to count and count and count. Don't forget the Protein, don't forget to hydrate, or your Vitamins. I want to do everything right but I feel like I'm coming up short. I can't stand the taste of any food or Protein Drink, trying to hydrate is a b***h because I keep thinking I'm going slow and end up getting bad cramps from it....and those monstrous bricks they call vitamins make me gag or vomit ugh. I know it'll get better I know this will pass but being in the present and feeling like I'm getting no where is killing me. And the mood swings don't make it any better...I'm incredibly sad or angry all the time. I don't regret this at all I just wish I could make the progress I'm supposed to be making and enjoy it. I've lost 25 pounds since surgery so I'm grateful for that, its just such a long and lonely process since no one around me understands. They say they do but they really don't.... just needed to vent. Thanks for listening.

Hello,

I'm incredibly new here but i've been reading people's posts. I still considering weight loss surgery and I will most likely do it due to my years of weight gain and loss and my family history of health problems associated with obesity.

I just wanted to say hello and tell you that I think you are courageous. You made a really big decision for yourself and from what I understand it is normal to grieve or feel symptoms of depression as you consider the many ways your life has changed.

You chose surgery for a reason. I think that finding new ways to Celebrate ourselves can be a challenge to anyone.

I wish you happiness and the drive to hydrate ; )

Hi there! I'm so sorry to read that you're struggling. I've had depression most of my life and nothing frustrates me more than people saying "I understand" or "get over it." Everyone's journey is different. You can read and research and read some more, but I don't think anyone can ever be truly prepared for the incredible life-changing journey WLS truly is.

It's totally okay to feel what you're feeling right now. I'd daresay it's more common than you think. Thinking of everything you've had to give up, the post-op pain, even how this new tool will change your life... that can all be very emotional. If you had surgery locally, is there a support group you could join? Do you have a friend/colleague/doctor/etc outside of your family that you can talk with?

Happy Birthday! I hope you enjoy your day.

Thank you for that it means a lot seriously, don't let my experience weaken your stance. I think this opportunity is amazing but it's also a lot of work, and I wish you luck as well on your journey!

Thank you...I don't stay far from where I had my surgery but because of covid they aren't allowing meetings. In fact this is my only support that I have as far as people who have had the surgery. And I know my sisters boyfriends mom had it but idk feel weird talking to her. But your message touched my heart and thank you for the birthday wishes

First order of business: ❤️ Happy Birthday ❤️
Change Vitamins if you can. Try to split them in half, get tasty chewable versions or even liquid & patch varieties.
Hydration, food and life WILL get easier with time. You are in the very early stages post op so please give yourself a little grace. You don’t have to be perfect just consistent.
Good Luck !

those kinds of feelings are pretty common the first few weeks - but it'll pass and all the food/hydration/etc routines will get much easier, as GreenTealael said. I remember feeling the same way the first few weeks - but it does get easier...

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
