Everyone's experience is different, but generally speaking, this is a very safe surgery with low complication rates. I'm 6.5 months post-gastric bypass and I'm doing great. I've lost 100 pounds since my surgery. I only had to spend one night in the hospital, and I had very little pain. I didn't need to take any pain medication, not even Tylenol, after I left the hospital. The gas pain was pretty bad when I first woke up, but it didn't last long.

The first few weeks after surgery are the hardest, and a lot of people experience temporary feelings of regret at some point during that time, but once you get past the liquid/puree/soft stages and you start to see results, you will probably be very happy that you decided to have the surgery. Most of us are. Good luck!

I had VSG done, I spent one night in the hospital. I didn't take any pain medication once I got home. Gas pain was a big deal but the more I moved around the better it got. I had some issues with Constipation later in the game but got that under control with some education.

I have lost a bit over 60 pounds in a little over 2 months, I had some tough times in my head but just short periods of time. All in all super happy I went through surgery.

Always remember that everything in healing is a stage, don't get hung up on the little things. Its a stage and and will pass. Keep moving around and drink plenty of fluids in little sips!!!

Happy thoughts, don't let the fear take away your joy, you got this!!!

You can do it! Think positive and try to imagine what you will look/feel like once it is done. I was so scared also, but once it was over with I never regretted it. I had an awful 1st month, but everyone is different. Honestly, I wish I would have done it sooner.

I just had mine on 3 February. It was so much easier than I expected. There is some pain, but you get all the pain meds and nausea meds in the hospital. I stayed 2 days in the hospital. Once I got home, I didn’t need any of the nausea and pain meds. I was just annoyed at how dry my throat and mouth feel. I go on daily walks since I left the hospital, I only had one “low energy” day where I just did not do anything. Now I make sure to always have something to drink with me so that I don’t forgot to hydrate. I’m never hungry... but boy were the cravings real yesterday!!

YOU CAN DO IT.

I had mine on Feb 4th! And like everyone said each experience is different! I came home the same day and only took pain meds for 1 day. (They always make me nauseous). I work from home so I was able to do so. My only issue is I don’t feel like I’m getting enough fluids ( just don’t want any) but I’m adjusting and doing better today! Anddddddd I’m down 18 pounds! You got this! ❤️

Hello everyone. I am scheduled for the 15th February and I must admit that I am terrified.
Any words of comfort?
Sent from my SM-G988U using BariatricPal mobile app

Like everyone said, every person has a different experience. I had mine on feb 2nd , exactly 1 week ago and it's been brutal. I dont take any medicine, I'm always nauseous, Water is hard to drink, coughs and sneeze are brutal, I'm pale, and I cant sleep. My tips of advise are: 1. The stitches dont hurt, it's the bloating (burp and pass gas as best as you can). 2. Walk, walk, walk -walk as much as you can, when I walk, I feel almost normal. 3. Use the spirometer they give you to prevent pneumonia. You'll do great though, dont worry.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
