Foamie Saturday night!

Recommended Posts

Ok, now hear me out. I had a little yogurt and two bites of chicken breast last night for dinner and never felt the stuffed feeling or even full feeling. I’m three weeks out from surgery. About 10 minutes later I noticed the Calcium chew samples that I will need to start in a few days so I thought I’d test one. The minute I ate it I ran to the bathroom thinking I had to throw up but instead experienced the dreaded foamie thing for two hours.

What did I do wrong? It’s not blatantly obvious to me because I didn’t overeat at dinner.

I never want to experience that again- I’m sure I will, but if there is an obvious reason PLEASE share!

hard to say, but if I had to guess, I'd say the chicken. Chicken breast is too dry for many people who are early post-op. Either that, or just your overall volume was a bit much for your pouch.

I couldn't even take any Vitamins or supplements until the 4th month post op. They all made me feel very nauseous. I tried taking them on an empty stomach and then after I ate, and it did not make a difference. Maybe wait a few weeks and try it again. I just tried every month, and finally I was able to take them without feeling sick.

Real story...the first time I had a Calcium chew after surgery (about 1-2 weeks post-op), I ate it after a meal. I puked...for 6 hours. With stomach cramps. And misery. 🤢🤮🥴

I have my calcium in the morning now, on an empty stomach. 😊

Omg interesting - empty stomach! And separate from your other Vitamins etc?

My guess is that it was the chicken. Two years post-sleeve and I still can't eat steak or pork chops (meat is too dense) or dense chicken without getting the foamies.

I do not take Iron, so I take all my Vitamins in the morning, on an empty stomach. It seems like whenever I take them with food in my pouch I get nauseous 🤷‍♀️

I suspect the chicken breast is what made you sick. I'm three months out from bypass, and the first two months I suffered from the foamies at least once a week. Ugh! Fortunately, it's only happened once in the past month. But I noticed that every time I got sick, I had eaten some type of meat or chicken. My body just had a hard time processing it the first two months after surgery. The first time I tried ground beef, I had the foamies for 12 hours and was up all night. After that I stuck with shrimp for a while, which my stomach was able to tolerate. Now I'm able to eat beef or chicken and it doesn't bother me. Although, I'm still steering clear of steaks and dry white meat chicken.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
