Week since surgery, down 11lbs, 50 overall. & What I have learned.

Recommended Posts

So, a week since my surgery. One, you gain about 10lbs in Water weight from all the iv fluids they pump in ya, but you pee them out quickly.

Two, The pain from the hernia surgery far outweighs the pain from the sleeve surgery.

Three, Getting fluids in is rough, because it seems there isn't enough time in the day.

Four, ZERO Hunger, but every time a commercial for pizza or burgers comes on tv I want one.

Five, So far so good. Can't wait to get to soft foods in a week, because the Protein Shakes, Protein water, and yogurt is getting old.

Six, Down 10lbs since the day of the surgery Not including the 10lbs of fluids, 50lb mark overall. Not so bad yet.

I also ended up having a hernia repair during my surgery. I had no idea it was even there Docs found it while they were inside and fixed it. I'm hoping that is where the majority of my pain is coming from. I'm happy to hear you are doing well. I gained 11 lbs in the hospital. That is now gone plus 5 on five days out.

Yeah, those tv food ads initiate your "head hunger" to salivate over their food. And yes, you have to sip, sip, sip all day long to get your fluids in.

Glad to hear you are doing so well!! I downloaded a timer app on my phone (timer+) to go off every 5 minutes so that I make sure I sip all day long - easy right now but will suck when I go back to work on Monday!

I plan to get up and walk around the house during commercials. Hope that will help keep my mind off the food

How was your Dr. Appointment yesterday? Are you feeling better today? Thinking of you.

Went good. He took two huge needles full out of it, and then packed it full of gauze and taped it down shut. Said to leave it that way for 48 hours and then check and see if it blows back up. :) Thanks!

Well let's hope for the best, you don't need that to happen again.

That sounds ... absolutely atrocious. I'm glad you have such a great attitude about it!

I'm dealing with a "deep stitch" issue. I woke up and it looked like I had a swollen ridge across my abdomen (still does). After three nurses and the surgeon, they decided it wasn't actually swollen, it was just a very deep internal stitch that was pulling things inward and making everything around it appear swollen. The bruising is also pretty impressive!

Eh, I am taking it as it comes. It's too late to turn back now!!! ;) But sadly, the swelling is back, and my poor belly button is the size of a golf ball again. I have an appt tomorrow, and he will probably have to drain it again. UGH!

Deep stitch issue sounds much worse. Hope once the stitch disolves, it will go away?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
