I'm soooo curious about the ports.

I heard something about itchyness. Does this last long, or just after the surgery???

where can i find a picture of an actual port. healthy non infected one or any???

I like baths, are those allowed regularly???

Does it protrude much off the skin, or is it plush???

any info is appriciated. I'd really like to see a life picture.

If I can go ahead with the banding I'm gonna make my journal with plenty of pictures on curious stuff like this. I haven't come across any journals with much pictures of scares and the nature. So if anyone knows of a journal or site to visit please, let me know.

thanks

Well my Dr. showed me a port when I went for my first consultation and was very good to tell me all about its function. Yours should do the same and this should help you understand it better.I would do a search on lapband on the internet and there are some I've come across that shows videos of what the band looks like and how they put it around your stomach. Do as much research as you can before you make this decision. Lots of good info here and please go look and read some of the older threads lots of similar questions you will be asking . But doing a search will get you alot of basics on the procedure its self.

Ok, anybody got a belly shot??? LOL!! Sorry, I don't have a pic of my scars to show at the moment. Here is the website for the maker of Lapband http://www.inamed.com/products/obesity/us/patient/patient.html They have pics of the band and lots of info you should be reading.

Lots of people can feel their ports if they press in the area. I can't feel mine, although I can feel either the band or the tube higher up on my tummy. I have heard of some people who have lost all of their weight having surgery to move the port where it is less noticable, or because it was in a place where their clothing irritated it. As I understand it, as the body shrinks your port can move into a new location from where it was to begin with. I'm not sure I will ever shrink that much, LOL!

All of my incisions starting itching about the 3rd week after surgery. I was constantly scratching at my belly! My dr said it was just the nerves growing back together. I would say it lasted a good 3 weeks. Now it's just an occassional little itch.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
