Can you have pasta after surgery?

Recommended Posts

I’m getting a sleeve in a few weeks. I know we’re supposed to be low carb while losing weight but once you’re in maintenance can you have Pasta at all? I have celiac disease so I don’t eat any kind of bread, I’m not a big rice or potatoes person in general, but since my celiac diagnosis a year ago I’ve loved making homemade pasta from brown rice flour and chickpeas. It’s soooo good and I don’t want to give it up, especially since it took me so long to find a recipe I liked. Right now I probably have it once maybe twice a week. If I make sure I stay under my carbs/calorie limit for the day is there a problem with having pasta regularly? I just feel guilty since it’s a food we’re not supposed to eat traditionally

I’m almost 3 months postop and Pasta sits like a rock in my gut, even small amounts. You’ll have to see how you tolerate it. It might be better for you than regular pasta, since it’s made with chickpea flour - more Protein in it.

I'm celiac as well and have had no trouble (after bypass) with gluten-free Pasta. As you said, however, we need to watch the quantity due to the carb content. Your homemade pasta sounds yummy!

I have Pasta on rare occasions. I have either chickpea or lentil pasta noodles. It's not something I have very much though especially since I learned I have a wheat allergy and wheat seems to be in EVERYTHING (e.i essentially every friggin' sauce)! -_-'

As much as I wanted to be able to eat ANYTHING Pasta bread rice related and it's all a wrap on my end lol which is a great thing

But everyone is different. You might be able to tolerate better than I can.

I don't worry too much about carbs anymore since I'm in maintenance (and have been for four years), but I don't eat a lot of Pasta for the reasons others mentioned - it sits in my gut like a rock. I do have it occasionally, though - but never very much at one time. Maybe 1/2 C or so.

I'm 2 years post-op sleeve and have a couple of bites of Pasta on rare occasions, but my stomach doesn't like it anymore. It tells me I have to stop at just a couple of bites.

Thanks for your advice everyone! I’ve had to give up a lot of favorite foods in the past year since my celiac diagnosis and I’m reluctant to give up one more. I’ll have to see how it feels after my surgery. If I have to give it up it’s worth the trade but I hope I can stomach a little bit

I'm 3 months post DS and I can eat Pasta but not white bread. I usually go with chickpea, cauliflower or Protein pasta to make it worthwhile. Everyone is different, good luck!

I can only eat two bites, and sits there like it wants to come back up, so it's not worth the trouble. Rice was worse because it swells even more in your gut and was painful, so no on that too.

Also it was a year out before I even tried those things. I also could not tolerate steak until 9 months, nor chicken breast. I ate thighs, ground beef, pork steak, egg.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
