Eggs & Beans 😀

Recommended Posts

I’m on my second day of the mush phase. For two morning now I have felt overwhelmingly stuffed from less than one scrambled egg- I hadn’t felt stuffed at anytime in the first phase so when stuffed hits, it hits! Now I get it! Today stuffed moved on to basically feeling sick all day. Then I had smashed blacks Beans with melted mozz and avocado for dinner and was able to eat all 6oz without any problem nor did I feel stuffed.

So... why do scrambled eggs affect me the way they did and not something that seems like it would be more filling?

I’m 16 days post op!

Sometimes it's a big pouch day (or meal) and sometimes it's a small pouch day. I'm a little over a year out, and I'll still have variation on when I feel restriction. The big thing in the beginning is to listen to your body. Don't assume that b/c you ate 6oz Beans before, that you will be able to all 6oz next time. Eat slowly, and stop as soon as you feel it. In the beginning, I made the mistake of swallowing 1 more bite, and that's when I'd get the foamies and/or would need to vomit.

Sounds like you are doing great! Best of luck to you!!

Thank you so much. I didn’t expect my experiences to be across the board or different than others. Boy was I wrong!

Once you start on more solid foods you start to experience the restrictive benefit of surgery. In the liquid stage everything you drink literally goes right through your tummy. And I agree, some times you may be able to eat a little more one day but not the next. Also, your tummy can be a bit cantankerous: enjoying something one day & making you feel unwell the next.

A lot of people say they struggled with eggs to begin. I didn’t but I couldn’t eat one egg for months after surgery so this seems very normal to me. (Took me 3 days to eat 2 scrambled eggs.) Personally I’d think 6oz of any food at this stage would be too much. Two dessertspoons was my limit. But that was my experience.

Eat slowly. Take a break between each mouthful. Allow the message that you’ve had enough to get through. You don’t want to eat until you’re full or in pain from the restriction.

Good luck & congrats on your surgery.

Thank you so much. Someone needs to write a book because post surgery is a crazy experience! Why just two teaspoons for you of food? Did you get the message you were full? I’ll slow down my eating after reading this post!

It can be pretty crazy especially as we all experience things differently & there’s no definite rule as to how you will progress post surgery. That’s why this forum is so helpful - so many members happy to share their story so you don’t feel as crazy. You may have some similarities to one person’s experience but be totally different to another.

It was a combination of not being hungry & that two dessertspoons was enough. A quarter cup of most things was common until after month 3 post surgery if I remember correctly. I wouldn’t say I felt full & certainly not ‘stuffed’. I just didn’t want any more. It did help me understand the difference between wanting to eat & needing to eat. Some days I’d only eat half a thin pork sausage (about 2inches long) for a meal. It would take 4 days to eat a single serve of rolled oats. I used teaspoons & baby forks to eat so each bite was small. It was pretty freaky that that amount of food was all I wanted & needed. I still take ages to eat (30-60 mins depending on what I’m eating) because if I eat too quickly my restriction kicks in.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
