Gastric bypass- endoscopic revision

Recommended Posts

Hi-
I had gastric bypass in 2016. Lost 100lbs. Since then, I’ve gained 60 of that weight. I have an appt in couple of weeks for a revision. From what I’ve looked, they do an endoscopic revision and it’s a 15 min procedure.
My question is- do we have to wait the 6 months that we did for the original gastric (per insurance) or will this not be that long of a wait?

How much have you lost since the revision?

Thanks everyone!

It totally will depend on how your surgeon explains the need for the revision during the insurance submission and if your insurance requires the waiting period matter what.

Call your insurance a d ask where you can find the information on Bariatric revision surgery. If possible ask for it in writing. Also find out if that particular revision procedure is covered.

Good Luck ❤️

I'm scheduled for a surgical revision on March 16. My docs (weight loss clinic) do not recommend the endoscopic procedure. As they put it - its like a bandaid on a gaping wound - it helps a little but not worth the effort to open the package and put it on.

Good luck!

If you don’t mind me asking, what is the reason for the revision? I am a rny patient. 6 yrs out. I had lost 170 pounds and now have regain 50. This puts me 100 from my goal weight. I am hoping a revision would jumpstart my weight loss again and help me reach my goal weight.

I had my original bypass Nov 2009. Lost well, but regained it all. Since 2009 procedures and best practices have changed, so my surgeon updated my ..situation... to industry standard plus further distallized my anastamosis to allow for some Mal absorption again to get the weight back off.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
