Butter free popcorn

Do you eat it? Is it okay to eat? Does it impact your pouch?

I didn't eat it until I was at least a year out since it's not very nutrient dense, but I do eat it occasionally now. Watch it, though - it's easy to scarf down a ton of it. It's kind of weird how much of it you can eat - although when you figure 1/4 C of kernels will pop up to about 2 cups of popcorn, then it makes sense - most of the popped part is just Water, so they go back down to pretty much nothing in your pouch.

I've eaten popcorn a handful of times (I started AFTER weight loss phase though).

Have eaten up to about 1/2 a bag of microwave popcorn (equivalent to about 2 cups) WITH butter with no issue.

I've also had movie popcorn (pre-pandemic) with butter (that had white cheddar seasoning on it) no problem. I'd like to say that I ate the equivalent of 2 cups then also, but i can't say for sure as I didn't measure and it was dark, lol.

Whether or not YOU can tolerate it, only you can determine.

P.S. I'm a sleeve and 2+ years out, 1.5 years into maintenance.

I can also eat about 1.5- 2 cups without issue. My surgeon said to wait until I was at least 6 months out and tolerating nuts and seeds well. I didn't try popcorn until I was over a year out and only a few pieces at first. It is definitely a slider food and would be easy to eat too much too quickly. When you try it pour some in a small bowl. NEVER eat it out of a bag. That's an easy way to over eat and get sick.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
