Hi, my name is Fredricka and I’m new to the group. I’m super excited. I have UHC and I’m starting my once a week 12 sessions with a nutritionist on Thurs. 1/14/21 as required. This is my final step before approval submission. My current BMI is 46. Hope for some tips and info from you guys as well as encouragement while I go through this journey. Anybody go through UHC for approval?

Welcome Fredricka,

Browse around the forum threads and you'll see advice and info about anything and everything and yes I've seen plenty of people here talk about UHC, so search on that keyword and you might find something useful. Good luck on your WLS journey.

Welcome! As you peruse the boards you'll notice some people lose weight very quickly and others progress is slower. Use other's success as motivation but please don't become discouraged if yours is a bit more leisurely. Although we're all o the same path, each of our journey's are individual.

Wishing you much success and happiness!😊

I went thru UHC and it was a huge headache, I think I made something like 20 phone calls over the course of 2 days trying to get final approval, and it ran right up to the deadline, I got approval 3 days before my surgery date. To be fair it wasn't entirely UHC's fault, part of the problem was the hospital got hit with a ransomware attack and their systems were having issues so documents and such had to be sent a bunch of times and I had to mediate a conversation between the insurance company and my primary doctor due to them being rude to each other. So yea, that was fun, hope you have a better time with it.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
