Insurance submission

Recommended Posts

I'm super excited my doctor sent my information in on 1/7. I am praying it gets approved. I am super tired of poking myself with insulin and excited about my lifestyle change! I'm interested in hearing how long it took others to get approved and if you had any comorbidities?

Hi! I'm having RNY surgery on 1/28/21. It took 7 days for me to get my approval. I have type 2 diabetes, high cholesterol, and Gerd. Looking forward to having all of these comorbidities resolve soon! Good luck! I'm sure you will get approved.

My wife and I had surgery on 11/11. Submittal to insurance for us was on a Monday and by Friday of that week I was approved and by Wednesday of the following week my wife was approved as well. Once we had both approvals we were scheduled for surgery and started the 2 week pre-op diet only 2 days later. Congratulations on getting the requirements done and here is hoping that insurance will approve this for you.

Keep on top of them. I called every day just to get a status. So glad I did call they told me they approved me, I called my doctors office just to confirm they had the approval, the nurse said not yet, I was like ummm my insurance company said you did and she was like oh really let me check, and oh wow it was there she must have “missed” the email. I was scheduled right away so I am happy I stayed on their asses!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
