Sleeved 12/31 and having constant pain! Please help!

Recommended Posts

I have had constant soreness/pain right below my sternum (where the pouch should be) and it hurts when I move, sit, stand, walk - anything. It feels like someone kicked the crap out of me in that spot. I can get liquids down but I stopped foods (doctor cleared me for soft foods) because it hurts. I called the on call doctor and all he told me was to go to the ER if it worsens. If I do that I’ll probably be there all weekend and I’d like to avoid the covid stuff is possible. Is this normal? Will it go away? Has anyone experienced this? Please help me out!

Oh wow, that doesn't sound right. I'd go to the ER as suggested by your doc. I was done 6 days ago and the only pain I get now is if I burp.

Are you walking around enough? - Could be gas as well. You should surely go to the ER if it's unbarebale but i had constant pain first 2 weeks of my surgery. (29, November 2020) 1 month in - if i eat something now that doesn't settle with me as fast as lets say liquids does, same place ur indicating starts hurting but with a little walk right after eating.- the pain subsides. My doctor said that's normal as my body is adjusting to solids.

I’m probably not walking enough because it hurts to walk. I was doing ok until about 3 days ago. I took gas x and am trying to get warm Water down. I gave in a took a pain pill which got me through the night but if I drink anything after taking it I get nausea. I don’t have a fever and not vomiting so that’s what’s keeping me from going to the ER. I’m afraid of dehydration/malnutrition.

It certainly isn't "normal" and you might want to go to the ER just to make sure it's not something serious post-op.

I received my gastric sleeve on 12/29. I experienced that too. It was bad gas and possible Constipation from pain meds and drinking the Protein Shakes. I had to take 2 gas x and drink warm Water with Miralax. Soon I was better. The pain and fullness had me in tears. I thought it was a blood clot or heart attack. Until the pain subsided, I was gonna go to the ER. I DID NOT WANT TO DEAL WITH THE WHOLE COVID-19 ISSUES THERE. Thankfully, I felt better within an hour. I had to back off all my Vitamins and Protein until I got this under control. Now I am on pureed per my doctor. I will pick back up on my Vitamins next week and see how it goes. I am now using Protein Powder and adding it to everything I can. It has no taste and has been working better than the heavy shakes. You have to try what works until you can tolerate all the new changes our body has to endure. I also had a hiatal hernia repair at the same time. Today, I am feeling so much better. I have to pace myself and not take big gulps of anything at all.

Yes and you have to walk. I walk throughout the day to ensure I walk for a total of 30 mins. I try not to over do anything...this has been working well for me.

Try your best to get Water in - even if not taking ur Vitamins at least water prior to taking a pain pill. Try Malox or other acid reflux/gas related syrups. You might have to stay off solid foods till the pain goes away and u can take down water and other liquids. If water isn't working for you - you can always have flavored water or even go back to square 1 - Apple or berry juices.

But again - if really the pain is there today as well suggest instead of ER perhaps seeing your doctor with an appointment

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
