Losing Hair...wow!

Recommended Posts

I was a bad girl and did not hear the caution words regarding the Protein thing. So I am now on the 50 to 60 grams of protein a day via shakes and then at meals I will tackle the protein first. My hair is thin and I have little of it anyway so now it's really pathetic. My hairdresser suggested prenatal Vitamins. I read up on it and Zinc was suggested so I started taking that. I wonder if it stops and my hair would come back. I wouldn't trade my decision for anything. I've lost 45lbs look and feel great. I excercise like an athelete and am enjoying life except for the Hair loss. What do you know out there?

Protein, Protein protein! I can suggest Gold's Power Bars that you can purchase at Walgreens. About 200 calorie and 23 grams of protein. I typically have one at Breakfast or between a meal. They are soft and go down great in the morning with coffee. If you have superb restriction have half for Breakfast and the other half an hour later.

Your hair should come back once you replace what your body was missing.

I am having the SAME problem. I have been assured by other bandsters it will stop and come back. I've been losing hair like CRAZY for 6 weeks. Thank god I HAD a full head of hair. But I'm down to a third of what I used to have. YIKES. Everyone told me to go on prenatals. It's the Iron and Vitamin B that's missing. And from what I can tell on the internet- it's true. I just hope it kicks in soon. It looks like a murder scene in my bathtub. It's soooo gross.

Hi everyone............I'm not very good at this computer stuff, but love reading the threads. I have started to have lots of Hair loss too. My protien intake has been good and the weight loss has been wonderful 53 pounds since I started in July, but I don't want to be bald. Someone suggested Zinc Sulfate and Biotin, but I haven't been able to find the Zinc Sulfate. I take a chewable multi vit daily. Any thoughts ??? I am soooo glad to have my band helping me !! susa

Hi. I found out that the reason for my Hair loss (and I was losing it by the handful!), was that I was on too high a dose of Synthroid (for hypothyroidism) after losing weight. Once I slowly dropped my dose down, the hair loss stopped. So think about that if you are hypothyroid- you may need to get your dose lowered.

<p>I was losing hair back up from October though November...but it finally quit and I think I see some hope of it all coming back. I did increase my protien a little. My hairdresser said sometimes anesthisia will do it a couple months after the surgery... (Mine was in July /p>

From what I have read and what my doc has told me - they don't know why some people lose hair and others don't - I have read where who people get all their Protein and take botin - still loose hair. Some say it's the antheisia (sp) some say protien. But there is no real answer as to why. I had a friend who didn't have surgery but did medifast and she lost tons of hair - it usually happens 3-4 months out from surgery - but the good new is - that it does grow back.

I've just started losing mine - pretty badly. I'm 6.5 mos out from surgery and down about 45 lbs. I think it's actually breaking off - not really sure. My thyroid was low and they had to increase my medication. I'm hoping this will stop it. I'm also going to make sure I get the Protein in. I don't think I'm getting 50 to 60 in so I'll go to shakes. I hope it comes back soon. I have very fine hair anyway.

Well, I've ALWAYS had very thick, shiney hair. I think I started to notice hairloss about 3 or 4 months post-op. Well... 7 months post-op now and my hair is pretty thin and dull. I hate it! I wash a handfull of hair out every morning.. an dthen when I comb it I get another handfull. I honestly fear that I will go bald. It has nothing at all to do with Protein - cause I eat an average of 100gms a day. I eat totally balanced with fruits, veggies, etc. I get plenty of Water and take a Multi-Vitamin. Your body see weightloss as 'trauma' and you will lose hair as part of the process of your body fighting back.

If I could afford a nice wig I would completely cut my hair down short short and just wear a wig daily until I reach goal and my hair grows back.

hair loss has much more to do with the fact that your body underwent major trauma than it has to do with Protein. Any advice that tells you Protein overload is the answer -- take it with a grain of salt at best. You can lose hair if you have extreme protein (or most things including circulation/poor blood levels, etc.) deficiences, but we're just not likely to get there.

Surgery, period, can cause hairloss. A significant body trauma, period, can cause hairloss. Body shocks, period, can cause hairloss. Bandsters have all of the above. I lost MORE hair when I had my GB out than when I had my band surgery, and my protein/blood levels are just fine. Throwing more protein into my diet would have just made me work harder to lose weight.

We tend to run to our hairdressers for advice on hairloss because we assume they're experts, but they are no more experts on hairloss than someone who mows your lawn is an expert on soil chemistry. They can tell you how to style, cut, color, etc. but I've never once heard a hairdresser give good advice on Hair loss. They're big on throwing protein at you - protein shampoos, conditioners... umm hello, hairloss is at the follicle... hair breakage is in the shaft, and might b e aided by slathering on different shampoos and conditioners, but keeping a hair from breaking doesn't do much good when it's released at the follicle.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
