Which protein did you guys drink for the 2 week liquid diet?

Recommended Posts

Before the pre-op diet I made shakes with whatever powder I had (Walmart Equate, ALDI Elevation) but for the actual clear liquid pre-op I'm finding that the pre-made ones are the way to go because A) Everything is already measured and the nutritional info is spelled out, and B ) I'm too freaking cranky to want to mess with all of it anyway.

I really love FairLife CorePower but it can get pricey. The vanilla and chocolate are both good. I also like the Premier salted caramel and cinnamon roll, though some find it too sweet.

I also have a large tub of Bariatric Fusion chicken Soup Protein Powder. It's ... interesting. I had heard good things and that it satisfies when you're sick of sweet stuff, but IMO it's pretty disgusting.

my doctor has dictated which brand to use the whole time. I am currently on my 2 week liquid diet and using Pure Protein, but I only use 1/2 scoop in 8 oz of unsweetened Almond milk twice a day and a full scoop with 8 oz of unsweetened Almond milk two more times a day, making it 4 shakes a day. Have to drink them so they last for a 2 hour period each, and have a 1 hour timespan between each one.

At first I ordered the bariatric fission powder to make my own shakes. They were fine but without the blender and ice they are gross so I switched to the pre mixed premiere Protein for when I'm at work. Most of the flavors have been ok, salted caramel the best so far because the little taste of salt goes a long way when all you are doing is drinking sweet Protein Shakes and eating sweet Jello and Popsicles

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
