I had my surgery (Gastric Bypass) yesterday so far recovery is ok, i have been moved up to pureed diet, still in hospital but hoping to get out this afternoon. Biggest problem has been managing pain closely. But i think we got it taken care of now. I have been walking and it is so true it does help the gas pain. Fingers crossed I get to go home tonight🤞🤞🤞

Really? Wow! I thought you’re supposed to be on full fluids for two weeks before soft/puréed?
Glad things are progressing nicely!

I’m jealous. I had two week liquid pre-op; and three week liquid post-op before soft foods.

I start regular food next week at 28 days. Funny how different the plans are, but my Dr is very good, very knowledgeable and update, he does all 3 types of surgeries which I have heard is rare.

I hope I’m in the same boat. After 1 month Optifast preop, not sure I can take just fluids that much longer. I’ll know soon enough, surgery is in 3 days, March 29th.

Agreed. My doctor also is very experienced and does all three surgeries as well. I considered Johns Hopkins and Walter Reed which also have excellent programs but specifically selected the doctor I used. Still, chewing would be nice (haha).

liquids post-op is a million times easier than pre-op because you’re not as hungry. Hopefully Optifast is better than it was years ago when I had it. My friend loved it, but I think I’d rather have starved.

You’re almost there! You got this!!!

Thanks Heather! Optifast has been ok. I don’t have any cravings and it tastes pretty good. Plus , I haven’t had to plan what my meals are this past month. I’m just bored with it to be honest.

I understand. You’ve done the tough part. It’ll be even easier after surgery. Thinking of you!

Just had surgery yesterday. I am trying to get through a Protein Shake - the criterion before I can leave. I’m having a hard time noticing when I’m full but trying not to push it so I do t feel nauseous or foam or worse throw up. Anyone else have difficulty knowing they are full?

Glad to hear pain is not as great. Hope the gas resolved quickly and you are starting to feel better!

I am!! Minor soreness but nothing like I had been feeling before. And that gas has started to pass.

Anybody had any waves of hunger pains that come and go?

Six days post op and only lost 1 pound. What the hell? All this suffering for what. I feel like I am in the twilight zone.

Gas and swelling probably need to go down. Also, they pump you up with lots of fluids via the IV.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
