GradyCat 3,695 Posted January 5, 2021 I know some of you struggle with getting in all the Protein we're required to get. So I got to thinking, "Why do we need all of this protein?" and "How are we supposed to get in the protein without the calories?" My surgeon and nutritionist don't count calories. They won't even discuss it. They focus on getting in the protein and Water and exercising and eating whole foods rather than processed foods. So I thought I'd share a couple of infographics about why the protein is so important for dieters and WLS patients to help us all better understand and know why we're doing it. 1 STLoser reacted to this
njlimmer 343 Posted January 5, 2021 My surgeon's office is recommending a plant-based approach. I still don't have a surgery date yet so I'll be getting more info from them, but I've wondered if and how their approach is different than others. I'm guessing that they'll tell me about plant-based Protein, but I don't know. 1 GradyCat reacted to this
RTL1234 99 Posted January 5, 2021 Mine focused on both. They don’t count calories, though I do but it is not the program focus. They want you to eat while, unprocessed foods. They say for every meal (once out of the purée phase and I can’t wait lol), to eat a Protein and a plant. 1 GradyCat reacted to this

I'm not looking to start a debate or anything (I follow the protein-first approach that my surgeon recommends), but I came across this video from Dr. Matthew Weiner explaining why he recommends a vegetable-first approach for his patients:
