Another New August Bandster!

Recommended Posts

I'm offically an August Bandster! I had my surgery yesterday, Tuesday, August 26th at 7:30 AM, with Dr. Erlich in Norwalk, CT. Things went very smoothly with the surgery and recovery, though I did have a rough night sleeping (Through miscommunication at the hospital, the nurses and PAs said my doctor told them I could not use my CPAP machine. I therefore had a terrible night. Turns out my doctor never told anyone that and was disturbed to hear it!) I had my barium x-ray this morning (Wednesday) and was discharged by 10 AM! I'm not in much pain at all, just very tired. Hopeing to get back my strength in the next day or two - and looking forward to all the new discoveries as a bandster.

Mary

Hi Mary,

It's great to see you're up and at 'em the day after your surgery. Hope the recovery moves right along for you.

Mine is at 9:30 tomorrow morning. Nervous, but for the most part, feel like I know what to expect -- thanks to the many posts I've been reading the past few months that have pretty much painted so many different scenarios for what to expect post-op and beyond.

Thanks everyone for all the support. I will try and post Friday -- hopefully, I'll be up for it.

Elizabeth, Atlanta

Good morning. Well, it's my second day post-op. I slept very well last night. No problems sleeping on my side, with a pillow propped up a little. I'm up and not even hungry this morning. Did have a little Jello and now having my Water. I am tired though. I don't want to get too lazy, but I do think I'll take a nap in a little while. The biggest pain I have is in my neck. I don't know why - perhaps the position in surgery (?) - but it's sore. Other than that, I'm just a little tender around all the incisions.

Elizabeth - good luck!

Alexandra - thanks for your note. I have enjoyed your posts and am right behind you.

Mary

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
