I'm 5 days post-op and I cannot stop burping! Every time I ingest anything- *burp.* It's most disconcerting! Is this a liquids stage thing or something I'm going to have to deal with forever? This is so distressing! I was raised with very good manners and right now I feel like a 12 year old boy showing off to his friends. Otherwise, the "winds" aren't too bad, I assume that's still trapped air from the surgery making its way out and that it'll pass.

Just another "is this normal???" post.

What Alley said. My burping issues went away after about a week or so.

I’m having the same issue, but it’s slowly getting better. I’m looking forward to it being less of an issue. The first couple of days I felt like I was going to barf when the gas was coming up, but thankfully I didn’t.

Walk it off. You still have air/anesthesia in you. It'll pass . . . literally. 😀 This isn't a permanent thing.

I dunno....I am 2+ years out and still burp an insane amount. Not as ridiculous as the first few months, but still ALOT.

(Mind you I do eat/drink alot of gas-inducing items, so maybe if I limited those it would get better...?)

I’m 2 weeks out tomorrow and still burping a lot too. Especially after eating purées. It like bubbles up, like I feel like I can feel it bubble all the way from my tummy, then I have a second where I think oh **** it is throw up, and then it’s not just lots of saliva and a burp. I don’t know. I feel like I’m weird. 🤷🏼‍♀️🤣🤣

3 months post op and my burping is insane. I mean very bad. Even worse at night. My doc said he has seen more burping in lower BMI patients. He tells me it will subside one day. I also had a small hernia

I'm nearing 3 months out & still burp loads lol My surgeon said its due to eating or drinking too quickly but even when I'm mindful & time things I still get similar levels of gas!

It doesn't bother me much now but might when we're out of lockdown & I'm around other people :)

Im 3.5 months out and although I've never in my life been able to burp loudly there's a constant gurgling sound after I eat or drink now. My surgeon said it can last up to a yr and it's my new stomach learning to push out air.. i don't have any wind at all though

Warning, TMI.....

I have belched and burped since surgery, and have a lot of flatulence. Thank god it doesn't smell, but I have to be careful it isn't a little moist..... sorry.

As for bowel movements....two very small, extremely hard and painful motions onky, in 11 days.

Sigh....

I’m 8yrs out and I can now burb discreetly lol. I notice that to much liquid or eating late and laying down makes me burp more often.

Right after surgery, I burped every time I sipped liquids. It eventually resolved. The only times I burp now is when, for some reason, my stomach doesn't tolerate a food. It's an indication that I am going to vomit -- several burps in a row. This is really rare, though. It happens maybe once every three months or so.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
