Terrible pulling and burning pain near incision

Recommended Posts

Had gastric bypass on 12/14 due to acid reflux, was sleeved in 2013. This time around it’s been an incredibly tuff recovery and I was wondering if anyone has experienced the pulling and burning pain near your biggest incision area? Not sure what’s happening this time around because I never experienced this before. 😕

I do! I have had SUCH a rough experience with the incisions. Mainly because I had a severe allergic reaction to the surgical glue. I've actually had to go on prednisone. Anyway, my biggest incision is actually right in the center of my stomach. The wound kept "oozing" during surgery, that's what they told me, so they had to put something in there to stop it. I can press on it and feel it. And it HURTS and pulls. Also, the stitch on my left side pulls sometimes and hurts. No clue why. I've never experience ANY of this before. I wish they had stitched me up vs. the glue. And whatever is in the main incision, I am not sure if they are planning on leaving it or taking it out.

That sounds so awful!! I’m so sorry your going through that. Very true about the glue, nobody knows if they’re allergic to it until they use it. Best of luck healing.

Before I left the hospital, the NP told me I would experience the exact pain you are describing and that it is completely normal as you are healing. She told me to try to hold on to some of my pain pills for when this hit. Thankfully, I listened and had pain pills left to help me thru it. It really shouldn’t last more than a couple days. Hope you are feeling better!

Thanks. It’s been over a couple of weeks with this pain but it seems to lessen the more I move around. It’s really weird, almost like it tightens up when I sit or sleep.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
