Amy_Aim 5 Posted January 2, 2021 I was sleeved 12/31 and learned that I stopped breathing during surgery? I just noticed today that I am beginning to cough with congestion in my chest? Anyone else experience something like this?
rachelblank1 6 Posted January 2, 2021 I personally haven't but I would advise you to watch out for pneumonia. Sent from my Pixel 4 XL using BariatricPal mobile app

Arabesque 7,397 Posted January 3, 2021 It must have been so frightening to hear you stopped breathing during surgery. I’m sorry that happened to you. As for the chest congestion & cough, check with your surgical team. Anything that seems odd to you post surgery should be checked medically. 1 Lillimint reacted to this
RTL1234 99 Posted January 3, 2021 First ... I agree with others, always check with your surgeon! Second... a post op cough can be normal because of the ET tube (breathing tube) they put in. It causes some slight inflammation and can exacerbate secretion production. I think I would be more concerned if you were out of breath. Use your incentive spirometer (hopefully you got one!!). Pain makes us take tiny little breaths and consequently our lungs don’t get to expand like they should. The IS helps us achieve those goals. Each day will get better! And by a week out you should be taking deep breaths easily! Your cough should also disappear. Going back to the first point though, you can always call and see what they say! D watch out for a fever, coughing up mucus that is deep yellow/green, unable to tolerate short walks because you’re out of breath. Good luck!!! Hope you feel better! 1 Amy_Aim reacted to this

4Kitties 1 Posted January 4, 2021 I suggest calling your doctor ASAP. I would ask for a covid test just to be safe. They may want to do a chest xray also. I hope you are healthy. Well wishes to you!! 1 Amy_Aim reacted to this
