RTL1234 99 Posted December 31, 2020 Like others, my Protein goal is 60g. Today is only my second day of purées but I got in 24g. The nutritionist instructed me to try to eat “mini” meals every 3 hours, and a Protein Shake in between to help increase it. They are 30g but I don’t hardly drink the entire thing. I tried to eat the every 3 hours but I can’t really tolerate more than 1-1.5 oz. I made some refried bean purée and ricotta bake, added some Isopure unflavored Protein Powder to up the protein count. I tried to eat an egg today but only ate about 1/4 because it just felt weird and stuck in there. Though I had egg salad purée and did okay. Any suggestions? Am I missing something? I feel like 60g is a big target and I’m not even close to hitting.
GradyCat 3,695 Posted December 31, 2020 I sipped, sipped, sipped on Protein Shakes all day long in the puree stage, hardly putting in any real food at all. It was comforting, tasty, satisfying and got in my Protein requirements. 1 RTL1234 reacted to this

Every single day things will get a little better and soon it will all be in your rear view mirror 2 bufbills and RTL1234 reacted to this

All have good protein, and got me through the puree stage. 1 RTL1234 reacted to this
RTL1234 99 Posted December 31, 2020 Thank you guys! How did I forget about cottage cheese? ! Yummm! I am a yogurt hater, I’ve never enjoyed the texture (but yet I eat other weird textures lol). The nutritionist said I could try yogurt again and even put a spoonful of whip cream in it to help with the texture. Maybe I should try that too. I have not tried meat yet. I’m almost afraid of the puréed meat but I like chicken salad so I’ll try that one too! I wonder if I can add the Isopure to it to? Hmm I’m not sure if it would blend well with meat. 🥴
Arabesque 7,442 Posted December 31, 2020 Don’t fret too much about not reaching your Protein goals at first. It’s hard because you’re consuming so little. Just slowly increase your intake as you’re able. It’s much easier when you start eating solid foods. Don’t forget your Protein Shakes count to your daily fluid goals too. Congrats on your surgery. 2 RTL1234 and AZhiker reacted to this
Katiebal_Lecter 28 Posted December 31, 2020 I’m on the purée phase with you, and I’m at about 26 grams of Protein a day. I can’t deal with the shakes anymore, they make me sick. I just got this tuna from Amazon called “Safecatch white tuna,” it’s geared toward pregnant ladies, but it has 24 grams of protein for 3 oz, so I’m hoping it will help me get closer to my requirements. 2 RTL1234 and Hellie1028 reacted to this
BigSue 1,394 Posted December 31, 2020 You can add Protein powder to almost anything puréed. I add unflavored protein powder to savory food, but I prefer to use flavored protein in sweet foods (e.g., cinnamon roll protein powder in applesauce or protein oatmeal; chocolate or vanilla protein powder in yogurt or pudding). Try drinking your Protein Shake just a few ounces at a time throughout the day. I find that hot beverages go down more easily than cold: YMMV, but you could try protein hot chocolate (if you make it with Fairlife milk instead of Water, it has as much protein as a shake).. A lot of people have trouble meeting Fluid and protein goals early on, but it gets easier, so just do your best right now.
Deb9386 110 Posted December 31, 2020 At your stage I only managed to get in the Protein with Protein Shakes, and protein waters. The shakes started to make me feel nauseous and the flavoured protein waters were a good fallback. The Vieve brand have 20g protein for 500ml bottle.
LaoDaBeirut 158 Posted January 2, 2021 At the puree stage I was allowed to have grilled or poached fish, which is really high in Protein. I also ate a lot of ethiopian food without the injera. That plus greek yogurt, baba ghanoush, hummas, and labneh were my protein sources. I didn't drink shakes. 1 AuntieMAME reacted to this

Did you puree the meats or were you sticking to something like yemisir wat? How were the spices on your stomach? You made me so happy to know I can try it! ~ AuntieMAME

I've had no problems with the spices but I'm also a person who LOVES spicy food. Really for me it's been the ideal puree food.
RTL1234 99 Posted January 3, 2021 I’m starting to tolerate more and have been getting closer to goals! I appreciate all the suggestions! Weirdly, I tolerated a scrambled egg just fine. Ate half, toddler ate the other half. Then the next day I tried a over medium egg which is my favorite with runny yolks! Did NOT sit well at all. I didn’t throw up but I felt soooo sick. Has anyone else found things that are the same thing but prepared different ways that you can’t tolerate?
