Hands and Feet are like ICE

Recommended Posts

So for the past two weeks I've been having issues with my hands and feet getting ice cold. I'm literally wearing three layers on my feet and have myself buried in a thick blanket and they still feel like ice! I have two pairs of thick fleece socks and fleece lined slipper socks and my feet are still ice cold. I've pulled my socks down to check a few times when it starts to get painful and they feel like ice not just how they feel to me, but actually physically feel like ice. My hands are also having issues and I've tried wearing layered gloves or burying them in blankets, sitting on them in an attempt to warm them and nothing works. I'm frustrated and am calling my doctor to find out what she thinks is causing it, but has anyone else experienced this? Is it normal? Is there a way to regulate the temperature of your hands and feet, because I find it weird that those are the only parts of my body that are having this issue.

I wonder if you have developed something like Raynaud's syndrome.

I have the same issue. My hands and feet get painfully cold multiple times a day, even if I’m in a warm room with warm socks and slippers on. I keep a flannel bag of rice that I heat up in the microwave and use it to warm my hands and feet. Things like socks and mittens just do not work. For walking the dog, I have microwaveable hand warmers — and I know how far to walk based on my hand warmth...

I hear a lot of people here say they are colder post-WLS but not specifically so severe in their extremities. Best to give the doctor a call.

I was the one who kept a fan blowing even inthe winter months, but since WLS i have been freezing cold, nothing can warm me up, i wear a full fleece pj set, thick socks and gloves to bed with heated blankets and heated fitted sheet with 3 large hot Water bottles. My feet especially hurt the most as they're so cold, it's lack of blood circulation inthe hands and feet that's causing the issue, i do want to go see a doctor soon but covid and all that everything is over the phone so hoping to call soon for a telephone conversation and see what she thinks. It is worrying and makes me panic at times as i just seem so cold all the time and i was NEVER like this. Im 4weeks post op have lost 35 pounds in 4weeks so could be that there's less fat

For me it's just my feet. I sleep with an extra blanket pulled up to my ankles because the rest of me doesn't need another cover.

I've got cold feet too. The explanation is simple: if you need three big logs in the fireplace to warm up a room nice and cozy, and you only put one log in the fire, you're gonna end up with cold corners in your room.

Same with the body. At 250+ pounds, we need 2000-2500 calories a day just to maintain vital functions like breathing, thinking, and yeah, body temperature. When we eat 600-700 calories a day, there's just not enough fuel, and while the body reaches into the auxiliary heat fuel (stored fat), the process is slow.
With limited resources, the body focuses on maintaining your core (stomach, liver, heart, lungs, etc) at optimum temperature, by sending more blood there, at the detriment of the extremities (hands, feet).
My surgeon confirmed this theory.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
