menstruation symptoms after surgery

Recommended Posts

I am only 10 weeks post op however for the 2 periods that I have had, cramping is excruciating and nausea for a few days before I start. Anyone else had this experience and did it improve? Side note, I have always had issues with menstruation having PCOS just seems more exaggerated currently

Yeah - expect things to get really weird. Hormones change a lot and it seems to cause a lot of period issues. I can only speak to my own experience, I'm three plus years out, in my thirties. Pre surgery, my periods were moderate and regular - 28 days. Not much cramping, a headache on day 1. Right after, the timing was all over the place. 3 weeks apart for a little while. I was also experiencing painful cramps, massive headaches, bloating etc. I suddenly understood what my sisters had been complaining about for years. My symptoms aren't as bad as the first year. The timing pretty much got back to normal, but my periods are still heavier since surgery. Good luck. Hope things get better for you.

Oh yeah. My periods were always painful, but since my surgery they're about 3x more painful. I've asked a few people who had WLS and I seemed to be the only one who experienced that so I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one... I think it's the changes our body went through that caused the change. I can only hope that once I hit maintainence that it'll get better.

I am perimenopausal at 48, so my periods are now unpredictable... I think the surgery may have made it worse for me LOL... I also had an endometrial ablation about 11 years ago, so "normally" my periods were just wiping pink - I didn't need to use any tampons/pads. My first period after the surgery was SO HEAVY, it was nuts... then the next one never happened (still hasn't, so I guess I skipped it).

I am guessing it is from all the estrogen trapped in fat that is being released or whatnot... people say hormones get real wonky after the surgery.

How about feeling tired? I never felt tired or noticed any symptoms pre-surgery. But the last few periods seem to be taking a toll on me. I’m tired, more hungry, craving sugar?! When I’m not on my period, I feel ‘normal.’
