Pre-op liquid diet is Bullsh*t!!!

Recommended Posts

It's not that I'm hungry, I'm not much, but OMG I JUST WANT TO CHEW SOMETHING!!!Particularly something CRUNCHY! 8 more days of this, then weeks thereafter. *cries* I hope my surgery doesn't get rescheduled because they said I have to stay on liquid diet until surgery if it does. 😩

I know this feel. I want to crunch, too. Day 5 for me over here. Surgery 12/30! Can you do sugar free popsicles? The cold of them right now isn’t satisfying, but the crunch is, and then shortly after I have some warm broth to warm my lip back up. Lol

Yep. It was bad. Then my plan had me for two more weeks after surgery. My teeth were hurting after a month of liquids. Couldnt wait to chew food again. Hang in there. Before you know it, it will be over. If I did it, you can do it.

I start the liquid diet on the 28th. I’m petrified. I have been eating for 10 people this entire month. I’m pretty sure I have gained weight, but I am not going to look until the 28th. I have actually seen where people are trying to start the liquid diet early?? HECK NO! I will eat everything in site until the 27th. I only have one week pre op. I do not think my hubs could deal with a hungry fat girl with no caffeine!! Good luck to you. I keep hearing it gets better. I’m just going to hope for the best.

I wish I had read this before re: the ice trick- I totally cracked and ate food. 😓 Ah well, back on the wagon. One of my nutritionists told me (off the record) that if I ate a little bit on xmas it'd be fine, so I think so long as I'm good from now on it'll be ok. Oof.

I chewed gum! and I had never chewed gum. Doc said chew on some peanuts then spit them out so i chose to use sunflower seeds. The shells kept me busy and I just spit them into a jar. They said you can not eat nobody said you can not chew.

sugar-free popsicles will give you the crunch you need and still be liquid.

I know exactly what you mean about just wanting to crunch something. I did end up doing gum and a few ice pops. I am now post-op and still on liquid diet. Luckily not clear liquids so I can have cream Soup and stuff like that. My wife made me an enchilada soup tonight and blended and strained it, but holy crap it would have been amazing with the tortilla chips my kids were making nachos out of!!!

After Thanksgiving I made some super high Protein turkey broth by cooking it over and over for three days and hammering the bones. Result was a super-thick gelatenous broth which I froze into quart-size freezer bags. I am planning to use those whenever doc says it’s safe after surgery.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
