I did get told I would be in some pain after my surgery, manageable pain. Not pain that would send me into a panic attack with whining and tossing every two hours. The kicker is I am very good with pain but this is the worse pain I’ve ever had in my entire life. I haven’t been able to walk or drink as much as they want because of the pain. I am hoping I will get to stay another night but i’m afraid to ask. Help please

Please let your nurse know so they can give you something for it dont suffer in silence. At home a heating pad and lots of pillows helped me. You can also prob get a script of tramadol from your doctor for the first few days if you asked.

Aren't they giving you IV pain meds while you're in the hospital? Tell your nurse!

I am 65 had surgery 2 mos ago and I ,too, thought I was dying with the pain It turns out I picked up some wicked stomach virus at the hospital which I bought home to my husband. Tell your surgeon not the interns that come by in rounds Tell her or him how bad the pain is. They can give you something as it is not normal to hurt so much I had 8 surgeries in my 65 years but that virus knocked the crap outta me. Everyone was pushing me to drink drink drink I couldn't hold a sip. PLEASE call your surgeon ASAP good luck and God Bless

Thankfully my nurse was able to get me a different medication at 4 this morning when it was the worst. I am feeling better I am just scared that they’re pushing me to go home today even though my pain is still not manageable. Thank you guys!!

Keep telling them, and ask your surgeon to give you a strong prescription for home. Tell he or she, that you are in severe pain. Don't be scared to tell them. Once you're home, you're home. It will get better pretty quickly. Hang in there.

Casey1234, I agree with both Bifbills and chinadoll2285. However, I am still pre-op as my surgery is scheduled for January 12. I am very nervous about the pain control because of the way the Drs now treat pain. I feel a lot of them are afraid to help with pain for getting in trouble with idk, whomever monitors what and how much they prescribe pain meds. It really does stink because everyone is different and some ppl do great on just tylenol and where others need an opiate of some sort? I so hope that I don't run into this problem either I feel your nervousness from here. I do hope that you are feeling better and the dr gave you some medication that worked for you. I have had 14 previous surgeries and I do know that pain control is a big desisive factor in getting up and working the soreness out-ie.. healing faster. Good luck, and keep us posted.

You can bet I'll do the same, as my surgery date is January 12th, 2021.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
