CJ78 4 Posted December 13, 2020 I have already been approved for surgery. My surgeon has me on a 3 week preop liquid diet consisting of 3 Protein Shakes a day with Water in between. Im on day 8 and Ive already lost 15 pounds. At this rate if I keep losing like this I will go under my BMI... (I wasn't too far from it to begin with).... can insurance deny surgery if I go under the 35 BMI during preop diet?

I would check with your insurance and your doctor's office to see how they do their report.Sent from my IN2017 using BariatricPal mobile app 2 bufbills and catwoman7 reacted to this
Lauren. 0 Posted December 13, 2020 Your doctor's office doesn't need to submit anything other than the bill once it's been approved. You should be good to go, even if your BMI dips slightly below their minimum.
GradyCat 3,695 Posted December 14, 2020 I would think they stick with what your BMI was when they approved the surgery and don't recheck again.

Ask your team this question. I’ve read different answers on this. I was really nervous because I was just barely qualifying by weight. I clarified and was able to lose weight after my 5 required weigh ins. Pre op didn’t count against me.
